Two goals from forward Jason Johnson helped pave the way to a victory for SAFC in their fourth preseason match of the season.
“Today was a good exercise,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. “We really appreciate Dallas City coming down to play us. This week has been about progressing from the previous week. The players, in terms of physical preparation need to progress, and also continue to learn what we’re trying to do and how we set our team up. I think this week we showed a bit of progression, and the players just need to keep working hard as they have been so far.”
SAFC opened the score early in the first half when forward Manolo Sanchez fed the ball into the box from the right side and found Johnson, who slotted the ball into the net.
About ten minutes later, SAFC defender Stephen McCarthy widened the gap with a slick header off a set piece taken by midfielder Victor Araujo.
Early in the second half, Sanchez got past the defense inside the visitors’ box and played the ball square to Johnson, who found the net for a second time with a tap-in. Sanchez later added a goal of his own after already collecting two assists on the day.
Around the 70th minute, SAFC made nine substitutions, one of those being Rafa Castillo, who buried a penalty to round out the scoring for SAFC.
The match comes in preparation for the 2016 USL opener on April 3 in Seattle. The club will return to San Antonio the following week for their home opener at Toyota Field on Saturday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m.
