SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC has signed defender Greg Cochrane and forward Manolo Sanchez for the upcoming 2016 USL season, the club announced today. Per club policy, terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
Cochrane joins SAFC from the Chicago Fire of Major League Soccer (MLS) where he spent the previous two seasons. The Pennsylvania native made 16 appearances with the Fire from 2014 to 2015 and collected two assists. Cochrane was originally selected by the Los Angeles Galaxy (MLS) in the second round of the 2013 MLS SuperDraft.
“Greg is an exciting attacking-minded left back,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. “He has good quality of service, a great engine and a good work rate. I’m really excited that he’s joined the club for the season.”
Cochrane attended both, Virginia Tech and Louisville during his college career, and began his playing career with the Central Jersey Spartans and Reading United of the Premier Development League. The 25-year-old also spent time on loan to USL side Saint Louis FC in 2015.
“Obviously it’s really exciting to join the club,” said Cochrane. “There are some really high quality players here and when you piece it all together with the backing of Spurs Sports & Entertainment, it’s something that really excited me to join. When the opportunity presented itself, I jumped at it and I can’t wait to get started.”
Sanchez comes to San Antonio from the New York Red Bulls (MLS) where he spent the 2015 season. Sanchez made three appearances with the senior side, while also spending time on loan to USL side New York Red Bulls II. With NYRB II, Sanchez made 22 appearances, scored four goals and collected one assist over the course of the 2015 season.
“Manolo is a direct forward who can play in numerous positions along the front line in a number of different roles,” said Powell. “He’s strong, aggressive, positive and likes to get to goal.”
Sanchez also played college soccer for two seasons with Louisville before transferring to Clemson University. While in college, Sanchez played for Reading United (PDL) from 2013 to 2014, scoring seven goals in 21 appearances. The 24-year-old is a native of Philadelphia.
“I’m very excited to be here,” said Sanchez. “It’s obviously a very well respected organization and club, and I am excited to be very successful on and off the field.”
San Antonio FC will make its debut in front of home supporters at Toyota Field on Saturday, April 9 against Swope Park Rangers, the USL affiliate of Sporting Kansas City.
