SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC has signed midfielder Michael Reed for the upcoming 2016 USL season, the club announced today. Per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Reed joins San Antonio from the Atlanta Silverbacks (NASL) where he spent the 2015 season. Reed started all of his 29 appearances for the Silverbacks, playing in 2,590 total minutes and scoring one goal from midfield. The 28-year-old joined the Silverbacks after spending three seasons with Minnesota United (NASL) where he collected an NASL Spring Championship Trophy in 2014.
“Michael has great endurance and an extremely high work rate in midfield,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. “He will complement the midfielders on the squad really well, and we anticipate him having a good season for us.”
The Albuquerque native played collegiate soccer at the University of New Mexico from 2007-10. Following his senior season, Reed was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s All-West Region Third Team.
“I am truly honored to be able to join this exciting new club,” said Reed. “This is an amazing opportunity with an incredible organization behind it and I can’t wait to step on the field and represent the club and the city of San Antonio with pride.”
San Antonio FC will make its debut in front of home supporters at Toyota Field on Saturday, April 9 against Swope Park Rangers, the USL affiliate of Sporting Kansas City.
Fans interested in being a part of the inaugural season can place their deposit for 2016 season tickets online at www.sanantoniofc.com or by calling 210-444-5MLS. Individual tickets will go on sale Wednesday, March 9.
