Both Evans and Lamadrid were a part of the 2014 Scorpions squad that won both the 2014 NASL Fall Championship the 2014 NASL Championship Final.
Evans joins San Antonio FC after being a member of the Scorpions staff from 2014 to 2015. Evans served as a first team assistant coach to former Scorpions head coach Alen Marcina during his time with the club.
“We are really pleased to have Nick Evans join the staff,” said Powell. “He has a massive reputation around the country as a good young coach both technically and tactically. Having observed him over the last couple of the weeks, he certainly has shown those skills. I’m really looking forward to working with him.”
Evans has also worked as a director of boy’s development of youth here in San Antonio for the past six years. The native of Wales holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) A License as well as a BSc in Sport & Exercise Science and a MSc in Kinesiology. “Obviously this is a fantastic opportunity to be a part of a wonderful organization,” said Evans. “Being here in San Antonio as part of professional soccer in the past, you understand the buzz and excitement that surrounds pro soccer here. I firmly believe this is the start of something significant for the city. The future is very bright for soccer here.”
Lamadrid, who will serve as the club’s goalkeeper coach, has been a staple in the San Antonio soccer community for the last few years. Lamadrid had been on the Scorpions staff since their inception in 2011 to their final season in 2015. While with the Scorpions, Lamadrid worked with MLS veteran Josh Saunders during his time with the club, as well as David Bingham, who recently received his first call-up to the United States Men’s National Team.
“Juan also has an excellent reputation around the country,” said Powell. “He is very good with the goalkeepers and goalkeeper training. He will be working with our goalies as well as with the rest of the first team. He has an excellent personality within the chemistry of the staff as well as the players.”
Lamadrid also serves as the goalkeeper coach for Trinity University and has worked with multiple All-American keepers during his tenure. Lamadrid oversaw current SAFC goalkeeper Matt Cardone’s development at both Trinity University and with the Scorpions. The Mexican native played professionally in Mexico for 12 seasons and holds a USSF B License.
“I am very happy, excited and humbled for being chosen by the organization to be a part of this ambitious project,” said Lamadrid. “This will shape what we know about soccer in San Antonio. I am very committed to put all of my experiences and passion to make this a very successful project. I will always be committed to excellence with the club.”
