SAN ANTONIO– San Antonio FC has signed midfielder and Dallas native Danny Garcia for the upcoming 2016 USL season, the club announced today. Per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Garcia, 22, joins San Antonio from FC Dallas of Major League Soccer where he has been since signing a homegrown contract with the club in 2013. Garcia made four first-team appearances with Dallas, while also tallying over 1,300 minutes for the club’s reserves. During the 2015 season, Garcia was loaned out to USL side Arizona United where he appeared in 15 games, collecting one assist in 834 total minutes played.
“Danny is a creative player that can play several different roles along the entire midfield area,” said San Antonio FC Head Coach Darren Powell. “I’m looking forward to Danny getting a good run of games with us. He has had some great experiences with FC Dallas previously and he will help us on both the attacking and defensive sides of the ball.”
Garcia joined the FC Dallas academy in 2009 and also attended the University of North Carolina for one season in 2012. He was named the ACC Freshman of the Year after recording four goals and six assists in 23 matches with the Tar Heels.
“Joining SAFC in its inaugural season is something very special to me,” said Garcia. “As a team, we have the opportunity to make this into something greater than it already is. I’m excited to meet the fans, the staff and my new teammates. I can’t wait to get down there and start the season.”
San Antonio FC will make its debut in front of home supporters at Toyota Field on Saturday, April 9 against Swope Park Rangers, the USL affiliate of Sporting Kansas City.
Fans interested in being a part of the inaugural season can place their deposit for 2016 season tickets online at USLSanAntonio.com or by calling 210-444-5MLS. Individual tickets will go on sale Wednesday, March 9.
