SAN ANTONIO, TX (July 11, 2017) – San Antonio FC announced today that the daily SiriusXM FC show, United States of Soccer will broadcast live from GS 1221 in San Antonio on Friday, July 14, starting at 10 a.m. Host Jason Davis will conduct the edition of the show live from the SAFC Bar Network partner on the same day that San Antonio will host OKC Energy FC at Toyota Field at 8 p.m. live on ESPNU and SiriusXM FC.

United States of Soccer airs every weekday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. central on SiriusXM’s 24/7 soccer channel, SiriusXM FC (channel 85 on satellite radios and the SiriusXM app). On Friday’s show, Davis will be joined live on air by SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell and Managing Director Tim Holt, as the event helps build momentum for San Antonio’s national match later that night on ESPNU.

Friday’s United States of Soccer show with Jason Davis will kick-off an exciting weekend of soccer in San Antonio. Later that night, SAFC will face the OKC Energy for the second time this season, looking for their sixth home win in the 2017 season. The game is one of just two USL matches to be aired live on ESPNU this season. The match is also the USL Game of the Week and will air live nationwide on SiriusXM FC. On Sunday, July 16, San Antonio will continue to showcase itself as an impressive soccer market when the Alamodome hosts a 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup doubleheader. Starting at 5 p.m. Jamaica and El Salvador will play in a Gold Cup Group C match, followed by a matchup between Mexico and Curacao at 7:30 p.m.

San Antonio FC played to a 1-1 draw in regulation time against Club Santos Laguna (Liga MX) in front of a sellout crowd of 8,007 fans in the club’s first-ever international friendly. Santos went on to defeat SAFC 4-3 in penalties.

“This game was an important part of our season,” said SAFC Assistant Coach Andy Thomson. “Obviously, it was an international friendly, but it was the first for our club. I think the players did very well. They worked as a unit and were compact, and we couldn’t ask anything more from them. It was a pleasure to play such a prestigious opponent.”

SAFC opened the scoring in the 18th minute when midfielder Billy Forbes dribbled past a defender and buried a low shot past Santos goalkeeper Carlos Acevedo. Forbes currently leads San Antonio FC with six goals and four assists in USL play.

Santos leveled the score in the 68th minute Emiliano Armentaros found the end of a pass from Oscar Manzanarez and sneaked it past Diego Restrepo to make it 1-1. Restrepo earned SWBC Man of the Match honors after recording seven saves on the night, as well as saving one penalty during the shootout.

The match marks the second-highest attendance at a San Antonio FC match this season and third overall. SAFC has now recorded four sellouts at Toyota Field in franchise history, including its Toyota Field record-setting attendance of 8,466 during the team’s inaugural home opener on April 9, 2016.

SAFC recorded a 1-1 draw in their most recent league match against Sacramento Republic FC, and has not played a match at home since June 17, when they posted a 3-1 win over Tulsa Roughnecks FC thanks to a brace from Kris Tyrpak and a goal from Devin Vega.

The match will mark the second friendly match to take place at Toyota Field this week after Liga MX teams Chivas de Guadalajara and Club Atlas faced off in an intense edition of the Clasico Tapatio. Last year, Toyota Field was also host to an exhibition match between Cruz Azul and Club Atlas.

San Antonio FC earned a 1-1 draw against Sacramento Republic FC on Saturday night at Papa Murphy’s Park. An equalizing goal from AJ Ajeakwa salvaged a point on the road for the Silver and Black.

“I’m very proud of our players for their effort and performance,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. “We didn’t get off to the best start this evening, but the response of our players was fantastic in an unbelievable atmosphere, so I’m proud of their attitude.”

Sacramento opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Emrah Klimenta found the end of a through-ball and slotted the ball past SAFC goalkeeper Lee Johnston.

SAFC forward AJ Ajeakwa equalized just over ten minutes later after midfielder Kris Tyrpak played him in on goal with a through-ball. Ajeakwa then placed the ball to the far post past goal-keeper Evan Newton to level the score at 1-1. The goal marked Ajeakwa’s third goal so far this season as well as Kris Tyrpak’s third assist for the club.

San Antonio FC goalkeeper Lee Johnston made his first professional start, recording three saves on the night after making his USL debut last weekend at Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC following Diego Restrepo’s ejection from the match.

“It felt great [to make my first start],” Johnston said. “I enjoy playing in front of big crowds; I played in front of them before in college, and tonight when I was called upon I was there to help the guys out.”

San Antonio FC today announced that the club has mutually agreed to part ways with midfielder Juan Nino so he can pursue playing opportunities abroad. The 27-year-old originally joined the club in February of 2017.

“On behalf of the team, we wish Juan all the best in his future opportunities and would like to thank him for his contributions to San Antonio FC,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. “Juan was a fantastic professional to work with and he worked hard for the club every day. We are very appreciative of his time here.”

San Antonio’s shutout streak was ended last weekend as the Tulsa Roughnecks found the back of the net in the 27th minute, ending the club record at 672 minutes throughout seven matches. On the other end of the pitch, however, SAFC found its form again in the attack, scoring three goals to maintain their perfect league record against the Roughnecks after recording two consecutive 0-0 draws in their two previous matches against Swope Park Rangers and OKC Energy FC. Two of the  goals against Tulsa came from midfielder Kris Tyrpak, who scored two impressive goals en route to the win– one sitting down, and one off a left-footed volley.

The latter was reminiscent of Tyrpak’s first goal of the season, which happened to come against the Switchbacks on April 7 at Toyota Field. SAFC was down 0-1 in the 79th minute when Shawn Chin switched the field of play towards Tyrpak, who controlled the ball off his chest and curved a half-volley into the back post to earn the equalizer after the Switchbacks took the lead earlier in the match with a goal from Aaron King.

SAFC and the Switchbacks have historically played tight matches. In their three encounters overall, both clubs are 1-1-1 and have scored three goals total against each other.

But despite playing even matches, the two clubs’ seasons have gone in different directions so far. San Antonio FC has yet to record its first loss, earning 10 wins and four draws heading into Saturday’s clash in Colorado Springs, while the Switchbacks will aim to bounce back from a loss at the hands of Swope Park Rangers on Wednesday. The hosts have recorded five wins, five draws, and five losses in 2017.

The Switchbacks have been efficient in their attack, scoring 22 goals so far this season compared with San Antonio’s 24, and tallying 70 shots on target while the Silver and Black has tallied 52. However, the Switchbacks’ defense has struggled to maintain the consistency that their attack has, conceding 25 goals, three of which have been from the penalty spot. Meanwhile, the Alamo City club has allowed just five goals on the season and recorded 10 clean sheets along the way, ranking best in the USL for most clean sheets and fewest goals allowed.

For San Antonio FC, one of the keys to victory will be scoring before the opponent. SAFC is 10-0-0 when scoring the first goal in a match; the Switchbacks are the only team who have managed to score first against them. San Antonio FC midfielder Kris Tyrpak has been named to the USL Team of the Week, the league announced today. Tyrpak scored two goals in 90 minutes, leading SAFC to a 3-1 win over regional rivals Tulsa Roughnecks FC.

Tyrpak recorded just the fourth brace in club history last Saturday and saw his first goal of the game featured on ESPN SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays. Both of his goals were scored in the first half, and his second would be the eventual game-winner for SAFC. The Dripping Springs, TX native has tallied three goals and one assist on the season and is tied for third on the club in scoring. Tyrpak joined San Antonio prior to the 2017 season after spending the 2016 campaign with USL Western Conference Champions Swope Park Rangers, where he tallied seven goals and one assist in 28 games.  

The honor marks the first Team of the Week inclusion for Tyrpak this season, and first for San Antonio FC since goalkeeper Diego Restrepo earned a spot following the May 26 match at Swope Park Rangers. San Antonio has had at least one representative in the USL Team of the Week following nine of the club’s 14 matches this season.

San Antonio FC earned a 3-1 win against Tulsa Roughnecks FC at Toyota Field on Saturday night. A brace from Kris Tyrpak and a goal from Devin Vega secured the hosts three points in front of 7,376 fans.

“I thought tonight was an interesting game,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. “It took some time to see what both teams were doing and I thought we played very well early on in the game. We got a fantastic start by scoring in the first five minutes, it put us on the front foot and that’s where we wanted to be.”

SAFC opened the scoring early in the match when Billy Forbes found Tyrpak in on goal with a through-ball. Tyrpak collided with a defender and went to ground, from where he tapped the ball past goalkeeper Bryan Byars for the 1-0 lead.

Roughnecks midfielder Joaquin Rivas leveled the score with a tap-in in the 27th minute, ending the Alamo City club’s clean sheet streak at 672 minutes without conceding a goal, and scoring  the first that the Silver and Black has conceded since April 25 at Seattle Sounders FC 2. The goal marked just the third that goalkeeper Diego Restrepo has conceded this season.

The hosts regained the lead in the 33rd minute when forward Aly Hassan found Tyrpak near the top of the box with a flick-on header, which the midfielder buried with a half-volley for the 2-1 advantage. Midfielder Devin Vega then secured the win for SAFC in the 76th minute after burying a shot past Byars, scoring his second goal of the season and first at Toyota Field, while Tyrpak extended his goal count to three on the season.

The match marked defender Cyprian Hedrick’s 100th USL game. Hedrick made his second USL appearance for SAFC after missing time due to a lower body injury he suffered on opening day at Rio Grande Valley FC. The centerback has made four appearances for the Alamo City club in all competitions.

“It’s a good feeling to be back out there,” Hedrick said. “It’s been a long process but I worked my way back, and I’m just really happy that we got the victory today.”

With the win, San Antonio FC extended its undefeated USL record to 14 matches, earning their tenth win of the season. The club is now 4-0-0 all-time against the Roughnecks, beating the club on three occasions in 2016.

San Antonio FC earned a 3-1 win against Tulsa Roughnecks FC at Toyota Field on Saturday night. A brace from Kris Tyrpak and a goal from Devin Vega secured the hosts three points in front of 7,376 fans.

“I thought tonight was an interesting game,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. “It took some time to see what both teams were doing and I thought we played very well early on in the game. We got a fantastic start by scoring in the first five minutes, it put us on the front foot and that’s where we wanted to be.”

SAFC opened the scoring early in the match when Billy Forbes found Tyrpak in on goal with a through-ball. Tyrpak collided with a defender and went to ground, from where he tapped the ball past goalkeeper Bryan Byars for the 1-0 lead.

Roughnecks midfielder Joaquin Rivas leveled the score with a tap-in in the 27th minute, ending the Alamo City club’s clean sheet streak at 672 minutes without conceding a goal, and scoring  the first that the Silver and Black has conceded since April 25 at Seattle Sounders FC 2. The goal marked just the third that goalkeeper Diego Restrepo has conceded this season.

The hosts regained the lead in the 33rd minute when forward Aly Hassan found Tyrpak near the top of the box with a flick-on header, which the midfielder buried with a half-volley for the 2-1 advantage. Midfielder Devin Vega then secured the win for SAFC in the 76th minute after burying a shot past Byars, scoring his second goal of the season and first at Toyota Field, while Tyrpak extended his goal count to three on the season.

The match marked defender Cyprian Hedrick’s 100th USL game. Hedrick made his second USL appearance for SAFC after missing time due to a lower body injury he suffered on opening day at Rio Grande Valley FC. The centerback has made four appearances for the Alamo City club in all competitions.

“It’s a good feeling to be back out there,” Hedrick said. “It’s been a long process but I worked my way back, and I’m just really happy that we got the victory today.”

With the win, San Antonio FC extended its undefeated USL record to 14 matches, earning their tenth win of the season. The club is now 4-0-0 all-time against the Roughnecks, beating the club on three occasions in 2016.
