San Antonio FC has added defender Callum Montgomery on loan from FC Dallas (MLS) for the 2020 USL Championship season pending league and federation approval, the team announced today. Per club policy, terms of the loan were not disclosed.

“We are very excited to welcome Callum Montgomery to the SAFC family,” said SAFC Head Coach Alen Marcina. “We want to thank Luchi Gonzalez and his staff at FC Dallas for the loan. Callum is a tenacious left-footed center back that possesses the characteristics to fit our team identity on and off the field.”

Montgomery was the fourth overall pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft after playing his college career at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. In his one season with Dallas, Montgomery was loaned out to the club’s USL League One affiliate North Texas FC where he made 22 appearances (1,958 minutes) last season, scoring three goals. The center-back was named the USL League One Player of the Week on August 23 of last season, while leading North Texas in clearances (76), blocks (17) and aerial duels won (69).

The 22-year-old played four years of soccer at UNC Charlotte where he made 73 total appearances and scored three goals. Following his senior season in 2018, Montgomery was named the Conference USA Defender of the Year while also earning United Soccer Coaches’ Frist Team All-American honors. The defender also made 25 appearances for the Victoria Highlanders in USL League Two while in college.

San Antonio FC fell to the El Paso Locomotive 2-6 in preseason action on Friday at the Locomotive’s training complex. After a first half that saw SAFC lead 2-1 at the break, El Paso scored five in the second 45 to earn the victory.

“There are a lot of positives to take from the match,” said SAFC Head Coach Alen Marcina. “In the first half, we were able to impose our pressing identity and put the opponent in tough situations to regain possession of the ball. We have a lot of work ahead of us, but it was also great to see the opportunities earned by our young players as they tested themselves at the highest level against a very good team. It was a great learning opportunity for them.”

SAFC started the match well and opened the scoring when Gonzalo Di Renzo scored his second goal of the preseason. After defender Hunter Gorksie broke up play and sprung the ball forward, Di Renzo capitalized with a smooth finish. SAFC doubled its lead when Jesus Enriquez was played through on goal from Connor Maloney. Enriquez found himself one-on-one with the keeper and unselfishly laid it off to Jose Gallegos to found his second preseason goal via a tap in.

SAFC made eight changes at halftime, which included debuts for Santiago Viera and Ignacio Bailone. In addition, the club saw six players aged 17 or younger on the field, including five from the SAFC Pro Academy and ETP.

SAFC will play its third preseason match this Wednesday at Toyota Field against MLS side FC Dallas. Tickets to the match – that kicks off at 7:30 p.m. – are on sale now.

“As a staff, we are excited to add Ignacio Bailone to the SAFC family,” Marcina said. “Ignacio demonstrates very good off the ball movement, hold up play, aerial presence, and is relentless in the press. He fits a specific player profile of our game model and will be a positive contributor to the team on and off the field.”

Bailone joins SAFC from Chacarita Juniors of the Argentinian second division where he spent the 2019 season. Prior to his time there, the 26-year-old spent three seasons under contact at Estudiantes from 2016-19. While with the top-flight side, Bailone also spent time on loan to Quilmes, Instituto and Gimnasia Jujuy in his country’s second division. Overall in his career to date, the forward has made 51 league appearances (24 starts) while playing in 2,606 minutes and scoring six goals in the first and second divisions of Argentina.

“I’m very happy to be here and thrilled with the way I’ve been welcomed,” Bailone said. “I hope to reach our collective goal of competing for a championship, and I’m ready to get to work towards that.”

Originally playing youth soccer with Quilmes, Bailone signed his first professional contract with Club Athletico Lanus in 2012 and remained with the club until 2016. While with Lanus, the Argentinian won the CONMEBOL Sudamericana tournament in 2013 while the club finished runner in in the 2013-14 Superliga Torneo Incial.

Bailone will wear No. 25 for SAFC.

San Antonio FC today announced its 2020 promotional schedule, including theme nights, drink specials and more for each regular season home match. The full promotional schedule can be found on www.sanantoniofc.com. Single game tickets starting at $10 will be available for purchase to the general public beginning Thursday, Feb. 6 at 10 a.m.

Season Ticket Members, along with fans who are subscribed to the SAFC Fan Club or have the official SAFC App, will have access to an exclusive presale opportunity beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 5.

SAFC will open its promotional schedule when it hosts the reigning USL Championship champions Real Monarchs SLC in the club’s season opener presented by H-E-B on Saturday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m. The night will be the first Bud Light $1 Drink Night of the season and will include a postgame fireworks show. Other exciting theme nights in 2020 include Noche de Celebración on April 25 vs. Reno 1868 FC, Hispanic Heritage Night presented by Toyota on Sept. 12 against the Portland Timbers 2, and the club’s first-ever Pride Night when it hosts LA Galaxy II on June 6.

In addition, the Alamo City club will kick off Independence Day celebrations with postgame fireworks on Friday, July 3 as it takes on Orange County SC, while SAFC will also honor those who have been affected by breast cancer during Breast Health Awareness Night on Saturday, Oct. 3. The SAFC regular season concludes against Las Vegas Lights FC on Saturday, Oct. 17 with a Bud Light $1 Drink Night and postgame fireworks show.

Toyota Field will host a Major League Rugby match between the Austin Gilgronis and Old Glory DC as the teams face off in league play on Saturday, Feb. 29 at 3 p.m. The night marks Military Appreciation Night for the Gilgronis.

Tickets for the match start at just $5 and are on sale now on Ticketmaster and the AT&T Center box office, while club seats start at only $15 and children under the age of 15 will receive free admission to the match.

Originally founded as the Austin Elite in 2017, the Gilgronis will enter their third season in Major League Rugby and their first under new ownership as they look to build on their 2019 campaign. Founded in 2018, Old Glory DC recorded two wins and two losses in their four exhibition matches of the 2019 season.

San Antonio FC opened its 2020 preseason campaign with a 5-1 win over OKC Energy FC at Toyota Soccer Center in Frisco on Saturday afternoon. Goals from Gonzalo Di Renzo, Hayden Partain, Jose Gallegos and two trialists helped earn the victory for SAFC.

“For every session and every game, we have our tactical objectives and behavioral objectives,” said SAFC Head Coach Alen Marcina. “We feel strongly that we met the behavioral objective today, and we will continue to work on the tactical side, which is expected. All in all, it’s a good day and we will put it behind us and get back to work on Monday to continue building our identity.”

SAFC started the match on the front foot, grabbing the first goal in the seventh minute when Di Renzo’s one-touch finish was set up by an assist from Jesus Enriquez. San Antonio doubled the lead 10 minutes later after Blake Smith was fouled in the box and Partain put away the ensuing penalty. After eight changes to the team at halftime, SAFC added a third in the second half when a trialist found Gallegos who cut inside and supplied a tidy finish. SAFC would round out the scoring thanks to goals from the two trialists – the latter coming via penalty kick. OKC added a late consolation after former SAFC midfielder Omar Gordon scored for the Energy.

In addition, four SAFC Pro Academy players made their first-team debuts in the match, and five total academy and ETP players appeared in the victory for San Antonio.

SAFC will face El Paso Locomotive FC in its next preseason match next Friday on the road. The club will then host FC Dallas at home on Feb. 12.

Luis is an intelligent striker, very good in combination and is fully committed to our team culture and game model."

Solignac joins San Antonio after most recently playing with the Chicago Fire (MLS) from 2016-18. During his time with the Fire, Solignac appeared in 58 league matches, scoring nine goals in 4,017 minutes. The Argentinian originally made his way to Major League Soccer in 2015 when he joined the Colorado Rapids, making 33 league appearances before being traded midseason to Chicago in 2016.

Overall in his MLS career, the 28-year-old appeared in 90 regular season matches, making 72 starts while recording 12 goals and nine assists in 6,264 minutes played. Solignac also appeared in seven Open Cup matches between the Rapids and Fire from 2015-18.

“I’m very happy and proud to be here,” said Solignac. “I feel very aligned with the identity of the club after these first few days of training camp. We are heading into preseason with high expectations and our goal is to get into playoffs and fight for a championship. That’s why we are here and that’s why we play this game.”

Solignac made his professional debut for Club Athletico Platense in his native Argentina before embarking on four different loan spells from 2009-14. The forward’s most successful stint on loan came in 2014 when he scored 14 goals in 32 appearances with IFK Mariehamn of the Finnish first division. Solignac’s other stops include Djurgarden (Sweden), Nueva Chicago (Argentina), SC Braga (Portugal) and Club Athletico Banfield (Argentina).

Solignac will wear No. 9 for the club.

The forward’s most successful stint on loan came in 2014 when he scored 14 goals in 32 appearances with IFK Mariehamn of the Finnish first division. “I do feel like an important piece on this roster, but I think everybody is going to play an important role,” said Parano. “The biggest thing for us to improve collectively and keep improving as people as well which is very important.”

“Before I even decided to come here, we talked about accountability and that this is a family,” said Maloney. “I’m a family-oriented person, and I think we’ve taken that and already and given our locker room a family feel.

“I think it says a lot about our club, the type of people we have in the locker room.”

San Antonio FC has signed midfielder Zachary Herivaux for the 2020 USL Championship season pending league and federation approval, the team announced today. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"As a staff, we are excited to welcome Zach Herivaux to the SAFC Family,” said SAFC Head Coach Alen Marcina. “Zach, at a young age, boasts MLS and senior international experience with Haiti. He demonstrates the traits to be a dominant midfielder who is a relentless ball winner and a terrific passer to progress play into finishing action zones."

Herivaux joins SAFC from the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer where he has been under contract since 2015. In five seasons with the Revs, Herivaux made 10 first-team appearances in the league and eight in the U.S. Open Cup. The 23-year-old spent the majority of the 2019 season on loan to the Birmingham Legion of the USL Championship where he made 23 appearances and compiled 1,732 minutes played. Herivaux added one goal, one assist, 14 key passes, and 84.6% passing accuracy and a 75.0% tackle success rate.

Herivaux previously spent time with San Antonio FC in 2017 after he was loaned to the club from New England in May of that year. In five appearances with SAFC that season, the midfielder recorded 214 minutes played, one goal, five key passes and a 71.4% tackle success rate.   

“It’s crazy how it all works out,” said Herivaux. “I’m excited to be back with this club and with these fans. I’m excited for the amazing season we have ahead of us and hopefully we can bring a lot of excitement back to the city.”

The third ever Homegrown player for the Revolution, Herivaux played four seasons with the Revolution Academy and was named the Academy Player of the Year in 2014 before being signed to a professional contract. The midfielder holds multiple citizenship with the United States, Japan and Haiti and has represented the Haitian national team at the full, U-23, U-21 and U-20 levels. Overall Herivaux has garnered over 15 caps with Haiti while also adding another 10-plus with the youth national team.
