Forward Scored Eight Goals in Record-Breaking July
SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 10, 2023) – San Antonio FC forward Tani Oluwaseyi has been named the USL Championship Player of the Month for July, the league announced today. Oluwaseyi scored eight goals in the month, setting league and club records along the way.
“We put in a lot of hard work every day and when you see the fruits of that labor then it kind of pays off, it feels like all the hard work has paid off,” Oluwaseyi said. “It’s good to get the award but eyes are on the next challenge this weekend, and to just continue to keep the ball rolling.”
Oluwaseyi started the month with a goal and an assist in the 3-1 win over Birmingham, before tallying a hat trick in the next match against Memphis. The hat trick was his second of the season, the first SAFC player to record multiple in a single season.
The MLS loanee assisted in the next match, before ending the month with four goals against Hartford to finish with eight goals and two assists.
Oluwaseyi’s four goals in a match set an SAFC record, and brought him to 13 goals on the season. The total, which has since grown to 14, took the top spot in the league’s Golden Boot race and gave him sole possession of the single-season club record for goals.
The two hat tricks in July brought his season total to three, tying a USL Championship record that had stood since 2015 and becoming just the second ever to score three or more goals in a match three times.
SAFC heads to Albuquerque this weekend for a Saturday night match with New Mexico United. Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. CT, and will be streamed on ESPN+.
