Pumas – also known as Club Universidad Nacional – was founded in 1954 and has won the Liga MX title seven times in their history. Pumas has also won the CONCACAF Champions League three times and the Copa MX once. Querétaro FC comes to Toyota Field after qualifying for the Liga MX playoffs last season, bringing with them a number of honors including the Copa MX Apertura in 2016, Supercopa MX in 2017, and three Acenso MX titles. The Querétaro City side also finished runners up for the Liga MX Clausura title in 2015.
The international exhibition matches for SAFC will be the fourth and fifth in club history after the team hosted Liga MX side Santos Laguna in back-to-back seasons in 2017-18 before hosting Cardiff City of the English Championship in the 2019 season.
Prior to the ‘SAFC International Showcase’, the club will host Austin Bold FC on July 3 in the first match open to full capacity since March of 2020. Tickets to that USL Championship match are also available at www.sanantoniofc.com or 210-444-5657.
