San Antonio FC defender Joaquin Varela was named to the USL Championship Team of the Week after his performance in the 1-1 draw at Las Vegas last Friday. Varela scored the opening goal to go along with a strong defensive performance as SAFC snagged a road point.
Along with his first goal for the club, Varela made six clearances, won five of his seven duels, and added two tackles as the Alamo City club picked up its 10th point of the season. Varela has now put in back-to-back strong road performances after recording eight tackles, six clearances, five interceptions and seven possessions gained in the June 5 draw at Colorado Springs.
Varela joins Mathieu Deplagne, Marcus Epps, Emil Cuello, Santiago Patino, Sam Gleadle and PC who have been honored on the Team of the Week or Team of the Week bench so far this season.
