San Antonio FC (5-8-5) will travel to take on El Paso Locomotive FC (7-4-7) at Southwest University Park on Wednesday, July 17 at 8 p.m. The match marks the third in the span of eight days and the first of a two-game road trip for the Alamo City club.
“We have two games on the road and it’s always good to spend time together,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. “The bottom line is we have to go into those games and perform. That’s where our focus is, we’re making sure all eyes are on Wednesday to make sure this team is prepared correctly to deliver the performance we expect every single day against El Paso.”
SAFC heads into the match after narrowly falling to Cardiff City FC 0-1 in an international exhibition match at Toyota Field on Saturday. Prior to that, the club earned its first Copa Tejas win against Austin Bold FC in their last USL Championship match on July 3, earning a convincing 3-0 victory against their local rivals.
El Paso will look to earn their first win in over a month after going 0-2-2 in their last four matches. The club 4-3-2 so far this season when playing at home and has scored 22 goals while conceding 17 overall so far in 2019.
The two clubs previously played to a scoreless draw at Toyota Field on June 26 in their only matchup so far in USL Championship play, while they also played to a 0-0 stalemate in preseason play ahead of the 2019 campaign.
SAFC is currently unbeaten when playing on Wednesdays this season, posting a 1-0-1 record against Austin Bold FC and El Paso in their only two Wednesday matchups of 2019. The match marks the first of two on the road for the Alamo City club, who will travel to take on Orange County SC following their clash against Locomotive FC.
“We’re going to be on the road for two games in the same week,” SAFC Goalkeeper Matthew Cardone said. “For some guys it might even be three games in the same week, so it’s important that we’re all physically ready.”
