San Antonio FC (12-10-7) will face Swope Park Rangers (13-10-7) at Children’s Mercy Park on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 7:30 p.m. CT. The match marks the second away game for the club in just eight days as they continue to push for a position in the 2018 USL Cup Playoffs.
“We have a big week ahead and are taking it one game at a time,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. “These matches have a playoff feel about them. We’re playing Swope for the third time this year and they’re a quality side, so we have to respond well after Saturday night and keep looking to improve on our performances.”
SAFC heads into the match after falling 1-2 to Tulsa Roughnecks FC on Saturday. The club is currently in ninth place in the standings but is within three points of Reno 1868 FC, Saint Louis FC, and SPR. With a win, SAFC could jump into sixth place in the West and find itself in a playoff position again.
Swope Park Rangers will look to get back into winning form at home after falling to Saint Louis FC 3-4, snapping a four-game winning streak for the club. SPR has scored 43 goals this season while conceding 48, however the club had only fallen at home twice prior to Saturday’s loss.
For SAFC, getting on the score sheet early and often will be keys to victory. The club has scored multiple goals in 10 of its 12 wins so far this season. In addition, SAFC is 7-2-1 when scoring the first goal in a match and 7-0-0 when scoring in both halves.
The match marks the second of three in the span of eight days for the Alamo City club and their eighth weekday matchup this season. SAFC is 4-2-1 when playing weekday matchups so far in 2018 and 2-2-1 when playing on Wednesday. The club has also recorded two wins when playing on three days’ rest.
Following their match at Swope, SAFC will face yet another quick turnaround as they travel to face Saint Louis FC at Toyota Stadium on Saturday prior to returning home for their last three matches of the regular season.
