San Antonio FC defender Cyprian Hedrick and midfielder Charlie Ward were named to the USL Team of the Week, the league announced today. Hedrick and Ward’s performances last week helped SAFC earn six points in four days to climb back into a Western Conference playoff spot.
The inclusion marks the first for Hedrick since joining SAFC prior to the 2017 season. In two matches this week vs. Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC and OKC Energy FC, Hedrick made two starts, tallied 180 minutes and won 21 of his 25 duels. The center-back also added 18 total clearances, seven tackles and won13 of his 16 aerial duels in the two games. Over the course of the two victories, Hedrick recorded an 89.4 percent passing accuracy, completing 101 of his 113 passes from his defensive position.
Ward was named the SWBC Man of the Match in last Saturday’s 2-1 win over OKC Energy FC, helping lead San Antonio to their third win in eight days. Ward impressively recorded a 100 percent passing accuracy, completing all 65 of his passes. The English native also tallied the game-winning assist in the 81st minute when his cross found the foot of teammate Ever Guzman. Ward added two interceptions and a clearance in the game. This marks the second consecutive week Ward has been included in the USL Team of the Week after he earned the honors following a 4-2 win over Real Monarchs SLC on July 21.
This marks the first time San Antonio FC has had multiple players included in the Team of the Week since forward Cesar Elizondo and former midfielder Billy Forbes were included in Week 6 of the 2017 season.
