
San Antonio FC midfielder Charlie Ward was named to the USL Team of the Week, the league announced today. Ward’s dominating performance in the center of midfield helped SAFC defeat the Western Conference-leading Real Monarchs SLC 4-2 last Saturday.
Ward started, played 86 minutes and scored his first professional goal from a direct free-kick en route to the big win for San Antonio FC. The England native led both teams with 79 touches, 65 total passes and four key passes. Ward added a 90.8 percent passing accuracy, a team-high three tackles and two clearances while the midfielder also didn’t concede a foul over the course of his time on the field.
This marks the first inclusion in the USL Team of the Week for Ward after joining the club in June. Overall in his time with SAFC, Ward has appeared in four matches, making two starts and recording a 90.5 percent passing accuracy over 216 total minutes.
