San Antonio FC (6-5-7) will host Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC (8-10-4) at Toyota Field on Wednesday, July 25 at 8 p.m. The match marks the USL Game of the Week and will be broadcast live on ESPNU. SAFC will also host a postgame fireworks show and ‘Extra Time’ postgame party, all with $1 beer and sodas courtesy of Bud Light.
SAFC will head into the match looking to earn its second consecutive win in just five days. The club earned a convincing 4-2 win against league-leaders Real Monarchs SLC on Saturday, marking just the third time in franchise history that the team has scored four goals in a single match in USL play.
“We feel that we can compete with anybody in the league and we proved that on Saturday,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. “Now we’ve regrouped and prepared for tomorrow’s match, and we want to make sure we continue with top-level performances.”
The Switchbacks will also look to start a winning streak after also earning a 4-2 win on Saturday against Tulsa Roughnecks FC, marking their first win in nearly a month. The Switchbacks will look to earn three points at Toyota Field after falling to SAFC in penalties in the Alamo City on May 16 in the second round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
Overall, SAFC is 1-2-2 against the Switchbacks, most recently playing to a 1-1 draw on June 30 in Colorado Springs thanks to an equalizing penalty kick from midfielder Rafa Castillo.
Following the final whistle, San Antonio FC will host a postgame fireworks show behind the north end of the stadium, as well as an ‘Extra Time’ postgame party. The night will also feature $1 beer and sodas throughout the match and postgame party, courtesy of Bud Light.
The match marks the second in the span of eight days for the Alamo City club. For SAFC, capitalizing on homefield advantage will prove to be crucial as the club faces yet another quick turnaround following Wednesday’s match.
“We know that when we play at home we need to be strong, and that our fans will always push us through to provide an extra effort,” SAFC Forward Ever Guzman said. “I think that was evident on Saturday night and we expect it to be the same on Wednesday.”
