San Antonio FC (3-2-4) will host Tulsa Roughnecks FC (0-4-5) at Toyota Field on Saturday, May 19 at Toyota Field. The match will mark Military Appreciation Night, presented by Toyota.
SAFC heads into the match after earning a 4-0 win at Midland Odessa Sockers FC on Wednesday in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Prior to that, the Alamo City club recorded a 0-0 draw on the road at Rio Grande Valley FC last Saturday, recording the team’s third shutout of the season in USL play.
With three matches in eight days, squad depth will be key to ensure that fatigue doesn’t affect performances, however SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell has full faith in the ability of his players to step up when needed.
“We have a very talented squad, and we told them earlier this week that we expect everybody to contribute over the course of the next few weeks, and so far they have,” Powell said. “These are exciting times for us because it’s an opportunity to see different combinations of players, so we always look forward to it.”
SAFC will look to build on a four-game unbeaten streak on Saturday, and continue their winning streak against the Roughnecks. The Alamo City club is 6-0-0 overall against Tulsa in USL play, earning five wins in the regular season dating back to the club’s 2016 inaugural season, and one playoff win in 2017.
The Roughnecks will look to earn a win on the road back in USL action after exiting the U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday, falling 3-4 to FC Wichita in the second round of the competition. The club is currently 0-4-5 in USL play, and sit in 16th place in the Western Conference standings.
Following the match against the Roughnecks, SAFC will return to Open Cup action on Wednesday, May 23 as they host Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at Toyota Field in the third round of the competition.
