San Antonio FC (0-1-0) will host Saint Louis FC (0-0-1) at Toyota Field on Saturday, March 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the club’s 2018 home opener, presented by H-E-B. Fans in attendance will also enjoy $1 drinks and sodas courtesy of Bud Light.
SAFC heads into the match looking to earn their first win of the season in front of their home fans after falling 1-2 to Sacramento Republic FC on the road last weekend. The match will also mark the first time the Alamo City club faces Saint Louis FC since the 2016 season following the latter’s stint in the USL Eastern Conference during the 2017 campaign.
“We’re excited to play at home again,” SAFC Forward Ever Guzman said. “We’ve been waiting for this moment for a few months, and it’s finally here. We need to be ready and fight to give our fans a win”
In their two previous encounters, SAFC has recorded one win and one loss against Saint Louis FC, earning three points on the road in August 2016 before falling 1-3 at Toyota Field the following month.
Saint Louis FC finished the 2017 season in 12th place in the standings, missing out on the USL playoffs and going 9-14-9 in the regular season. STLFC opened their 2018 campaign last Saturday with a 1-1 draw at Rio Grande Valley FC.
For San Antonio FC, home field advantage will play a key role in the match. Last season, SAFC lost just one match at home, earning eight wins and seven draws at Toyota Field en route to a second-place finish in the Western Conference standings and the club’s first-ever USL Playoffs run.
“Everyone is excited to play a Toyota Field,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. “Our fans create a phenomenal environment and are always behind us no matter what, so we’re looking forward to playing in front of them against a very good Saint Louis FC team.”
The first 1,000 fans to arrive at Toyota Field on Saturday will get a free H-E-B/SAFC pop-socket, while fans over the age of 21 will receive schedule magnets courtesy of Bud Light.
