San Antonio FC Head Coach Darren Powell has named midfielder Ryan Roushandel as the club’s captain for the 2018 USL season. Roushandel is preparing for his third season with the club after joining during training camp prior to the 2016 campaign.
Roushandel’s veteran leadership has been on display in his two seasons with SAFC, and the versatile player has played in defense and midfield for the club. The 32-year-old also serves as an SAFC Pro Academy coach and has stepped in as an SAFC color commentator on a select few club broadcasts.
Over two seasons with SAFC, Roushandel has appeared in 15 matches, scoring one goal and recording an assist. 12 of those appearances came last season when Roushandel played a pivotal part in the team down the stretch as San Antonio clinched its first playoff berth and a second-place regular season finish in the Western Conference.
Roushandel will be sixth player to wear the armband in a match for San Antonio since the club’s inception. He joins Josh Ford, Michael Reed, Sebastien Ibeagha, Rafa Castillo and Greg Cochrane as players who have captained the club in a competitive match.
