San Antonio FC (15-4-10) will host Tampa Bay Rowdies (13-7-10) in the club’s first interconference matchup in franchise history. The match will mark the first of three consecutive games at home for SAFC as it concludes the USL regular season.
SAFC heads into the match after earning a crucial 2-0 win at Tulsa Roughnecks FC. The Alamo City club now sits in fourth place in the Western Conference standings, but is level on points with third-place Swope Park Rangers and second-place Reno 1868 FC while with a game in hand.
Tampa Bay will look to earn three points on the road after earning a USL playoff berth with a win against New York Red Bulls II on Wednesday. The club is currently in second place in the Eastern Conference, but only one point ahead of Charleston Battery and Charlotte Independence. The Rowdies have not lost a match since Sept. 2, but will face a tough challenge as they visit the best defense in the West.
San Antonio FC goalkeeper Diego Restrepo could match the USL single-season record for most clean sheets (13) should he earn a shutout on Saturday night. Restrepo earned his 12th clean sheet against the Roughnecks last weekend, recording four saves on the night. The Venezuela native is also a strong contender for the 2017 USL Golden Glove, currently posting a 0.77 goals against average.
Should SAFC record an attendance of 6,303, the club would cross the 100,000 mark in overall attendance in USL matches this season. SAFC has recorded four sellouts so far this year, most recently in the club’s September 23 match against RGV FC.
Saturday’s match will mark the first of three for the Silver and Black in the span of eight days. The club will host Portland Timbers 2 on Oct. 11 prior to closing out the season with the third edition of the South Texas Derby this season, presented by Augie’s Smoke House.
