San Antonio FC (15-4-10) earned a 2-0 win against Tulsa Roughnecks FC (13-12-4) at ONEOK Field on Saturday night in the club’s last road match of the 2017 USL regular season.
“I thought tonight was an important match,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. “The players came out and had a response after last weekend’s result, and I’m proud of them. We earned two goals against a strong Tulsa team and earned a shutout as well, which is important.”
SAFC opened the scoring in the 70th minute when Mark O’Ojong finished off a corner from captain Michael Reed with a header to earn the Silver and Black the 1-0 lead. The goal marked O’Ojong’s second this season in his first match playing as a defender for the club, as well as his first appearance since August 8. The assist also marked Reed’s third this season.
The Alamo City club then widened their lead in the 88th minute following a counter attack. Midfielder Omar Gordon found midfielder Billy Forbes inside the box, from where he slotted a shot past goalkeeper Fabian Cerda. The goal marked Forbes’ ninth this season, tying Rafa Castillo’s all-time leading scoring record for the club.
Goalkeeper Diego Restrepo recorded his 12th clean sheet of the season, making four saves on the night en route to the team’s 15th shutout this year. Restrepo is now just one shutout away from matching the USL single-season record of 13, which was set by goalkeeper Brandon Miller in 2015 while playing for the Rochester Rhinos.
San Antonio FC will now conclude the rest of the USL regular season with three consecutive matches at home. The club will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 7 as they host Tampa Bay Rowdies at Toyota Field in the club’s first inter-conference matchup in franchise history.
