San Antonio FC (13-2-10) tied LA Galaxy II (7-14-5) at StubHub Center on Saturday night. A late equalizer from Michael Reed was enough to salvage the club a point on the road.
“Tonight was a tight game between two teams committed to getting the result,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. “I’m proud that the guys were able to fight and come back to earn a point.”
Los Dos opened the scoring in the 51st minute when Jean Engola capitalized off a corner kick with a header, beating goalkeeper Diego Restrepo for the 1-0 lead.
SAFC then equalized in the 88th minute when captain Michael Reed curled a free kick into the back of the net to make it 1-1. The goal marked Reed’s second of the season, adding on to his two assists. Reed’s only other goal this season came in the team’s home opener against Los Dos on April 1.
San Antonio FC goalkeeper Diego Restrepo earned SWBC Man of the Match honors after recording six saves on the night, the most by any SAFC goalkeeper in a single match so far this season. Restrepo is still three clean sheets away from matching the USL record for most shut-outs in a single season (13), which was set by Brandon Miller in 2015 with the Rochester Rhinos.
Forwards Mike Seth and Ever Guzman made their first starts for the Silver and Black. Seth recorded three shots and one on target, while Guzman tallied one shot, one key pass, and 85 percent passing accuracy.
The match marked the second of four consecutive away games for the Alamo City club. The team will return to action on Wednesday, September 13 as they visit Orange County SC, prior to traveling to face Swope Park Rangers just four days later.
