San Antonio FC (13-2-9) earned a thrilling 2-1 win on the road against league-leaders Real Monarchs SLC on Saturday night. Two goals for the Alamo City club in the last two minutes clinched three points on the road in the first of four consecutive away matches for the Silver and Black.
“It was a very tight game from the first minute to the last minute,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. “I’m very proud of our players for their performance tonight, their determination and desire to keep on going. As a coach that’s all you can ask for.”
Real Monarchs opened the scoring in the 55th minute when midfielder Sebastian Saucedo dribbled his way into the box and slotted the ball into the net past goalkeeper Diego Restrepo for the 1-0 lead.
SAFC then equalized off a set piece in the 88th minute when forward Mike Seth forced an own goal from Taylor Peay as the two battled for a header. Defender Stephen McCarthy then sealed the win for the Alamo City club in stoppage time when he headed in a set piece from midfielder Michael Reed.
