Following their 0-0 draw at OKC last weekend, San Antonio FC (11-2-9) will host the first of two matchups at Toyota Field this week as they welcome Vancouver Whitecaps FC (4-12-7) to Toyota Field on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. in the final Bud Light $1 Drink Night of the season.
SAFC will look to earn three points at home and earn their first win since their 1-0 victory at Phoenix Rising FC on July 29. Since then, the team has recorded two draws and a loss, but remains in second place in the Western Conference standings behind only Real Monarchs SLC.
The Alamo City club has yet to lose a match at home this season, earning five wins and six draws at Toyota Field since the start of the 2017 campaign. In addition, the club will aim to continue their winning streak against the Whitecaps after earning two wins in the only two encounters between the two clubs all-time.
Meanwhile, Vancouver will look to earn their first win since June 4. The club currently finds itself in 14th place in the West despite scoring 24 goals and recording 88 shots on target, however they’ve struggled on the defensive end, conceding 35 goals, 21 of which have come since their last win. On the other hand, SAFC leads the league defensively, allowing just 13 goals this season and recording 12 shutouts, while goalkeeper Diego Restrepo continues to lead the race for the USL Golden Glove with a 0.62 goal differential.
SAFC midfielders Billy Forbes and Omar Gordon may pose a threat to Vancouver’s defense. Forbes currently leads the Silver and Black in goals (seven), assists (five), shots (39), and chances created (24), while Gordon led the team with three key passes and recorded one shot in his club debut last Saturday at OKC.
Following the matchup against the Whitecaps, San Antonio FC will host Portland Timbers 2 just three days later at Toyota Field in their second and last encounter of the season.
