San Antonio FC (9-0-3) will travel to face Oklahoma Energy FC (4-5-1) at Taft Stadium on Saturday, June 10 at 7:30 p.m. in first of three encounters between the two clubs. SAFC will seek to earn their first win against the Energy in franchise history while continuing their impressive run of defensive play.
San Antonio FC will look to earn its seventh consecutive USL clean sheet in Oklahoma City after earning a 0-0 draw against Swope Park Rangers at Toyota Field last weekend. SAFC will aim to extend their undefeated start to 2017 in league play, and could make USL history with another win on the road after tying the all-time single-season road win streak at Swope Park Rangers on May 26.
The Alamo City club’s defensive performances have proven to be a key this season. The Silver and Black have only conceded four goals so far in 2017, the fewest in the USL, and has now gone 555 minutes in league play without conceding a goal. SAFC also leads the league in clean sheets with nine, which are three more than the next best team.
Goalkeeper Diego Restrepo has now recorded six consecutive clean sheets, leading the league in that category while posting an 89.5 percent success rate. Restrepo has made seven appearances for the club, and has not conceded since he first took the pitch at Whitecaps FC 2 on April 22, recording an impressive goals against average of 0.27.
The Energy will head into the match after earning a 3-2 win against Phoenix Rising FC at home. The hosts will be without forward Wojciech Wojcik due to injury, while goalkeeper Cody Laurendi will also miss the match due to an international call-up.
SAFC previously recorded two draws and one loss against the Energy in 2016. The match will be the first USL match in franchise history that San Antonio FC will play without defender Greg Cochrane, who will miss the game after being shown a red card last Saturday.
San Antonio FC will look to regain the top spot in the USL West with a win in Oklahoma City. The club is tied with Real Monarchs SLC on 30 points, however the Monarchs are currently in first place in the standings after recording one more win than SAFC.
