San Antonio FC has signed midfielder Mark O’Ojong for the 2017 USL season, the club announced today. O’Ojong joins the club from the Seattle Sounders 2 where he spent the 2016 season.
While with Seattle in 2016, O’Ojong appeared in 28 of the club’s 30 matches, making 20 starts while scoring two goals and recording an assist in 1,768 minutes played. In July of last season, O’Ojong was named 12th best player in the USL under the age of 20 as part of the league’s 20 Under 20 list, which was put together with the insight of USL head coaches along with input from TopDrawerSoccer.com.
“We’re excited to finally have Mark join us,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. “We’re looking forward to working with him. We think he’ll be a great addition to our team as he plays several different positions and roles within the midfield, so we’re excited to have him join us and hit the ground running.”
Along with his time in the Sounders organization, the Cameroon native has also played professionally in his home country, spending time with Rainbow FC. The 20-year-old has played for the Cameroon national team twice, including in the 2016 African Cup of Nations.
In addition, San Antonio FC also announced that the club has mutually parted ways with defender Kevyn McFarlane. McFarlane originally joined the club prior to the start of the 2017 season.
With the signing of O’Ojong and the departure of McFarlane, the current SAFC roster stands at 25.
San Antonio FC will return to Toyota Field to play Sacramento Republic FC on May 6 at 7:30 p.m. Fans can purchase tickets by calling the SAFC sales office at 210-444-5MLS or by visiting www.sanantoniofc.com.
