San Antonio FC will play its first home match of the 2017 USL season on April 1, hosting 2015 Western Conference Champion LA Galaxy II at Toyota Field, the league announced today. SAFC will travel to play the RGV FC Toros on March 26 for its 2017 season opener.
The SAFC home opener will mark the third matchup between San Antonio and LA Galaxy II. Last season, the two clubs tied 1-1 in Los Angeles in April before the Galaxy II defeated SAFC 3-2 in July at Toyota Field. LA Galaxy II finished the 2016 USL season in fifth place in the Western Conference before being eliminated in the first round of the USL Playoffs.
SAFC will open the season against regional rivals RGV FC Toros as the hosts open their new stadium, H-E-B Park for the first ever match. San Antonio and RGV met four times last season as the two clubs both embarked on their respective inaugural campaigns. RGV FC finished the 2016 season in second place in the Western Conference before falling to OKC Energy FC in a first-round playoff matchup.
