San Antonio FC fell 2-1 against Swope Park Rangers at Swope Soccer Village on Wednesday, ending the club’s three-match winning streak. A goal from Fejiro Okiomah was not enough for SAFC to salvage a point on the road.
Swope Park Rangers opened the scoring early in the half when Ayrton Pinheiro found the end of a through-ball and scored in the third minute. San Antonio FC then responded quickly five minutes later when Fejiro Okiomah headed in a corner from Carlos Alvarez. The goal was Okiomah’s second of the season, while Alvarez tallied his team-high sixth assist.
The second goal of the match came late in stoppage time after Swope Park Rangers were awarded a penalty kick in the 93rd minute. Ayrton converted the shot to earn the hosts the 2-1 win.
The match saw the return of SAFC forwards Shawn Chin and Jacques Francois from injury. Chin made his first appearance since June 15 after suffering a broken leg in the U.S. Open Cup match against Houston Dynamo, while Francois made his first appearance since June 23, when he recorded two assists against Orange County Blues FC.
San Antonio FC will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 4 as they host Arizona United SC at Toyota Field. The match will be the third encounter between the two clubs as they both aim to earn a position in the Western Conference playoffs.
