San Antonio FC (3-4-1) will travel to face New Mexico United (3-1-5) at Isotopes Park on Sunday, May 5 at 6:30 p.m. CT. The match marks the first between the two clubs as SAFC looks to earn its first road win of the season.
The Alamo City club heads into the match looking to build on a convincing 3-0 win at home against Tacoma Defiance. Midfielder Jack Barmby recorded a brace on the night, marking the second consecutive match in which an SAFC player bagged a brace after midfielder Brian Gomez achieved the feat at Real Monarchs on April 20.
Gomez heads into the match in good form after also recording two assists last Friday, marking the first time an SAFC player has tallied two assists in a single match since forward Jacques Francois recorded two on June 23, 2016. Similarly, SAFC forward Bradford Jamieson IV will look to build on his good form after scoring three goals in the past four matches. Jamieson is tied as the club’s leading scorer with Barmby and forward Ever Guzman with three each.
“Something we want to adjust this weekend against a good opponent is our mindset,” SAFC midfielder Michael Lahoud said. “There’s no substitute for hard work. We’re a talented team with a lot of potential, but at the end of the day, championship teams work hard.”
New Mexico United will look to remain unbeaten at home after compiling a 2-0-2 record at Isotopes Park, and will look to get back in the winning column after recording a draw and a loss in their last two matches. New Mexico has recorded an impressive 19 goals so far this season, however the team has conceded 14 goals, including three from the penalty spot.
With a win, SAFC could potentially jump as high as fourth place in the standings, pending results around the league. The team is currently in 12th place on 10 points and has recorded three wins in its last four matches.
