San Antonio FC (16-4-10) will host Rio Grande Valley FC (9-14-8) during Fan Appreciation Night at Toyota Field on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m, presented by Augie’s Smoke House. The match marks the Alamo City club’s final match of the USL regular season.
SAFC heads into the match after earning a 2-1 win at home against Portland Timbers 2 on Wednesday night, securing a top-three finish in the standings and a home seed in the USL playoff quarterfinals. The Silver and Black could finish in second place in the West with a win on Saturday.
RGV FC will aim to close out their 2017 campaign with a win on the road. The club suffered a 2-0 loss at Phoenix Rising FC last weekend, and have won just two of their previous five matches. The Toros are currently in 11th place in the standings and will miss out on the 2017 USL playoffs. Last season, the Toros were eliminated in the quarterfinals after qualifying for the playoffs with a second-place regular season finish in their inaugural campaign.
The two South Texas clubs will meet for the third time this season. SAFC earned a 1-0 win against RGV FC on the road in the club’s season opener on March 26 thanks to a goal from midfielder Billy Forbes. The Toros then earned three points on the road with a win against the Silver and Black at Toyota Field on Sept. 23. SAFC will look to earn its first home win in a South Texas Derby on Saturday.
Saturday’s match is Fan Appreciation Night at Toyota Field, presented by Augie’s Smoke House. The first thousand fans to arrive at the stadium will receive a free koozie, while several other prizes will be given away throughout the night, including SAFC playoff tickets, tickets to a Spurs game, and more.
San Antonio FC will then begin their first-ever USL playoff run on Saturday, Oct. 21 at Toyota Field, with their opponent still to be determined after this weekend’s matches across the league. Fans can purchase playoff tickets by visiting www.sanantoniofc.com or calling 210-444-5MLS.
