San Antonio FC (13-12-7) will host Las Vegas Lights FC (7-17-7) at Toyota Field on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m. as the club continues its playoff push at home. The match marks Breast Health Awareness Night presented by Methodist Healthcare.
SAFC heads into the match after earning a 3-1 win over Seattle Sounders FC 2 at Toyota Field last weekend. The club is currently in ninth place in the standings on 46 points and remains alive in the playoff race as it competes with Swope Park Rangers (50 pts) and Saint Louis FC (49 pts) for the remaining two Western Conference playoff spots.
The Alamo City club will benefit from home field advantage yet again as it faces Las Vegas for just the second time overall. SAFC is 9-3-3 at home so far this season and found its way back into the winning column after losing three in a row on the road. For SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell, playing at home gives the squad an extra motivation as they head into an important match.
“We have the best fans in the league,” Powell said. “They come out every week and make our players want to run harder, longer, and faster. Any time they come and share their Saturday evening with us we want to make sure they go home with a smile on their face and victorious after seeing their team give every ounce of effort out on the field.”
Las Vegas Lights FC will battle in uncharted territory as they visit Toyota Field for the very first time. The club is 2-10-3 on the road so far this season and is officially eliminated from playoff contention as they sit in 15th place in the standings, however they will have something to play for as they aim to spoil a season sweep for SAFC after the Alamo City club earned a 3-1 win over the Lights at Cashman Field on April 27 in their only other matchup.
SAFC midfielder Lance Laing will look to continue his run of good form as he spearheads the attack for the hosts. The Jamaican scored a goal and tallied an assist last weekend, achieving the feat for the fourth time this season since joining the team on loan in late August. Meanwhile, the Texas club saw two players get their name on the score sheet for the first time last weekend as San Antonio natives Ethan Bryant and Maxi Rodriguez scored their first USL goals.
“We know how big this game is and what it means in terms of our playoff aspirations,” Bryant said. “So we’re not going to hold anything back. We’re going to leave it all out on the field and our goal is always to secure the three points.”
As part of Breast Health Awareness Night, fans can purchase a ticket and pink scarf package starting at just $20 by visiting www.sanantoniofc.com or calling 210-444-5657. In addition, the club will offer $5 pink vodka lemonades during the match, and fans can bid to win a signed, player-worn special edition SAFC pink pregame tops online. A portion of proceeds from all initiatives will benefit Texas Wings.
