
San Antonio FC (8-9-6) will host Rio Grande Valley FC (6-11-6) at Toyota Field on Saturday, Aug. 17 at 7:30 p.m. as the club hosts #OurFuture Night presented by SWBC. The match marks the final Copa Tejas game for SAFC in the competition’s inaugural season.
SAFC heads into the match after earning a convincing 4-1 win at second-place Reno 1868 FC on Saturday. A brace from midfielder Cristian Parano and goals from Frank Lopez and Jack Barmby placed the club above the playoff line for the first time this season, while Parano earned USL Championship Player of the Week honors following his performance.
The match marks the first and only time SAFC will face RGV FC at Toyota Field. The Alamo City club previously fell to the Toros in Edinburg on May 25. The 11th edition of the South Texas Derby will also mark the final Copa Tejas match for San Antonio, who are tied on seven points with Austin Bold FC at the top of the competition’s standings.
SAFC is unbeaten in their last two home matches vs. RGV, drawing 1-1 in October of 2018 after beating the Toros 3-1 in October of 2017. SAFC has only lost two home matches in 2019 and just 10 since their 2016 inaugural season.
RGV FC are currently in 15th place in the Western Conference standings and have won just one out of their previous eight matches and are in third place in the Copa Tejas standings with four points.
The night marks #OurFuture Night at Toyota Field, during which SAFC will celebrate the future of professional soccer in San Antonio by recognizing the SAFC Pro Academy and Elite Training Program players. Fans can also enjoy $1 beer and sodas courtesy of Bud Light throughout the night.
