San Antonio FC (8-9-6) will host Rio Grande Valley FC (6-11-6) at Toyota Field on Saturday, Aug. 17 at 7:30 p.m. as the club hosts #OurFuture Night presented by SWBC. The match marks the final Copa Tejas game for SAFC in the competition’s inaugural season.

SAFC heads into the match after earning a convincing 4-1 win at second-place Reno 1868 FC on Saturday. A brace from midfielder Cristian Parano and goals from Frank Lopez and Jack Barmby placed the club above the playoff line for the first time this season, while Parano earned USL Championship Player of the Week honors following his performance.

The match marks the first and only time SAFC will face RGV FC at Toyota Field. The Alamo City club previously fell to the Toros in Edinburg on May 25. The United Soccer League and COPA90 have teamed up to introduce the inaugural edition of “Supporters Week”, a seven-day celebration of the communities and fanbases across the USL Championship.   Beginning Saturday, August 17 through Saturday, August 24, USL clubs will pay homage to fans through a league-wide initiative as Championship clubs transform their social profiles, highlight the incredible supporter stories around the league, and showcase fan-generated content. As the week unfolds, fans will also have a unique opportunity to interact with club and league social channels, contribute to the league website, and provide supporter-centric photos and videos to be shared across USL Championship’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram platforms.   In addition, clubs across the Championship will provide fans the opportunity to interactively impact an element of their in-stadium experience, including the use of social and app-based polling to determine which kit their team will wear, cleat styles, drink specials, goalkeeper glove colors, names on the back of jerseys, warmup music, and more. “For a lot of our clubs, every week is supporter’s week,” said USL Vice President of Communications Ryan Madden. “But from a USL HQ perspective, we wanted to find a cool, unique way to say thank you. The reality is our league doesn’t exist without the fans so the least we can do is to creatively engage, empower, and work to see the league more clearly through their eyes. San Antonio FC (8-9-6) beat Reno 1868 FC (13-6-5) 4-1 on Saturday night. A brace from midfielder Cristian Parano and goals from forward Frank Lopez and midfielder Jack Barmby gave the Alamo City club its first win at Greater Nevada Field.

“We’re extremely proud of our players and staff for the accumulation of work throughout the week,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. “Everyone was focused on Saturday night. I thought we started the game with good intensity and on the front foot, and we got the first goal which is always very important, and the guys saw the game out in the end.”

SAFC opened the scoring in the 12th minute when midfielder Walter Restrepo found Parano with a pass near midfield. The Argentinian turned and dribbled into space before firing a powerful strike past goalkeeper James Marcinowski for the 1-0 lead. Parano scored his second of the night just before the halftime whistle after Pecka laid off the ball near midfield. Again, the 19-year-old dribbled his way into the box and placed a shot far-post to double the lead.

The hosts went down to 10 men in the 50th minute after midfielder Eric Calvillo received his second yellow card of the night following a hard tackle on Pecka. SAFC then scored its third goal of the night, this time by way of Lopez after Pecka picked a defender’s pocket and found the Cuban striker, who dribbled past two defenders before beating Marcinowski with a hard, low shot.

SAFC struck again just two minutes later after Restrepo made a run down the flank with a wall-pass from Lopez and squared the ball to Barmby inside the box, from where the England native turned and finished to make it 4-0. Reno narrowed the gap in the 71st minute with a goal from Sam Gleadle following a corner kick, but were unable to find the back of the net again.

With the win, SAFC is now in ninth place in the Western Conference. The Alamo City club will return to USL Championship action on Saturday, Aug. 17 as the team hosts Rio Grande Valley FC at Toyota Field at 7:30 p.m.

The event will feature $1 beer and is open to all SAFC fans, regardless of membership status within the supporter groups. Those in attendance can also join supporters to create a tifo for Saturday's rivalry match against Rio Grande Valley FC.

The chant practice will be jointly led and run by MCF and the Crocketteers in an effort to welcome independent fans to join in on chants during SAFC matches from anywhere at Toyota Field on match days.

San Antonio FC (7-9-6) will travel to Reno 1868 FC (13-5-5) at Toyota Field on Saturday, August 10 in what is the second and final regular season match between the two clubs. SAFC will look to earn a tough road result against a Reno side that sits in second place and has only lost one home match all season.

SAFC travels to the Western part of the country following a 2-3 home loss to Sacramento Republic FC, marking just their second home loss of the season and 10th overall in 60 home matches since the club’s inception in 2016. Despite the loss, San Antonio FC completed a strong second half in the match as they nearly completed the three-goal comeback after conceding three in the first half at home for the first time since July 23, 2016 against LA Galaxy II.

The San Antonio FC defense continues to improve as the season progresses with goalkeeper Matthew Cardone and defender Eby Ackon continuing to put in strong performances alongside their defensive teammates. Cardone currently ranks second in saves (63), first in catches (26) and is tied for second in clearances (20) in the Western Conference. The San Antonio native is the lone goalkeeper in the top 20 of the Western Conference to record at least 20 catches and 20 clearances on the season so far. In addition, Ackon leads all Western Conference players with 200 duels won, while he also leads SAFC in passes (1,135), duels (298), aerial duels (101) and interceptions (31).

Reno 1868 FC is 4-1-0 in their last five matches, outscoring their opponents 11-8 over that span. The club is 7-1-3 at Greater Nevada Field this season, and the club hasn’t lost at home since June 18 against the Western Conference leading Phoenix Rising FC. Reno forward Corey Hertzog is fresh off of winning the USL Championship Player of the Month award after he scored four goals in July, bringing his season total to 11 which ranks fifth best in the league.

SAFC enters the road trip still looking for their first win at Greater Nevada Field in what will be their third match there. San Antonio was beaten in both previous meetings between the two clubs in Nevada. Overall, SAFC is 2-3-0 against Reno with the second win coming in June of this year after the Alamo City club earned its largest comeback win of the season in a 3-2 victory over 1868 FC at Toyota Field. San Antonio’s biggest win against Reno all-time came on April 15, 2017 when SAFC impressed to a 4-0 win at Toyota Field.

San Antonio FC (7-9-6) will travel to Reno 1868 FC (13-5-5) at Toyota Field on Saturday, August 10 in what is the second and final regular season match between the two clubs. SAFC will look to earn a tough road result against a Reno side that sits in second place and has only lost one home match all season.

SAFC travels to the Western part of the country following a 2-3 home loss to Sacramento Republic FC, marking just their second home loss of the season and 10th overall in 60 home matches since the club’s inception in 2016. Despite the loss, San Antonio FC completed a strong second half in the match as they nearly completed the three-goal comeback after conceding three in the first half at home for the first time since July 23, 2016 against LA Galaxy II.

The San Antonio FC defense continues to improve as the season progresses with goalkeeper Matthew Cardone and defender Eby Ackon continuing to put in strong performances alongside their defensive teammates. Cardone currently ranks second in saves (63), first in catches (26) and is tied for second in clearances (20) in the Western Conference. The San Antonio native is the lone goalkeeper in the top 20 of the Western Conference to record at least 20 catches and 20 clearances on the season so far. In addition, Ackon leads all Western Conference players with 200 duels won, while he also leads SAFC in passes (1,135), duels (298), aerial duels (101) and interceptions (31).

Reno 1868 FC is 4-1-0 in their last five matches, outscoring their opponents 11-8 over that span. The club is 7-1-3 at Greater Nevada Field this season, and the club hasn’t lost at home since June 18 against the Western Conference leading Phoenix Rising FC. Reno forward Corey Hertzog is fresh off of winning the USL Championship Player of the Month award after he scored four goals in July, bringing his season total to 11 which ranks fifth best in the league.

SAFC enters the road trip still looking for their first win at Greater Nevada Field in what will be their third match there. San Antonio was beaten in both previous meetings between the two clubs in Nevada. Overall, SAFC is 2-3-0 against Reno with the second win coming in June of this year after the Alamo City club earned its largest comeback win of the season in a 3-2 victory over 1868 FC at Toyota Field. San Antonio’s biggest win against Reno all-time came on April 15, 2017 when SAFC impressed to a 4-0 win at Toyota Field.

The SAFC Pro Academy has added Oscar Munoz to its coaching staff for the 2019-20 season, the club announced today. Munoz will also serve as the SAFC Club Affiliate Coordinator and brings over 18 years of experience in youth player development to the club.

Munoz holds a USSF A License as well as a USSF National Youth License, and has served as a coach for several local youth clubs since 1999, including AC Storm, Lonestar SC, and most recently Classics Elite. Munoz also served as an assistant coach for the now-defunct San Antonio Scorpions during the 2014 season, in which the team won the NASL Championship.

Prior to his coaching career, Munoz spent 14 years playing professionally in Colombia, Guatemala, China, and the United States.
