San Antonio FC will host ‘Spurs Night’ presented by Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino Hotel on Saturday, April 6 as the team hosts Las Vegas Lights FC at Toyota Field at 7:30 p.m. The night will feature a meet n’ greet with former Spurs player Matt Bonner and the Spurs Coyote.

Fans can meet Bonner and the Coyote starting at 6:15 p.m. by the South Gate inside Toyota Field, where they can receive an autographed card from the former Spur, while supplies last, and take photos with the Coyote.

Fans in attendance can take photos with all five Spurs NBA Championship trophies by visiting the Sky Suite on suite level by section 101 beginning at 6:15 p.m. The Spurs Championship banners will also be available for photo-ops in Fan Fiesta, located on the north end of the stadium.

San Antonio FC is also offering a special edition SAFC/Spurs scarf which can be purchased along with a ticket starting at just $20. Those who purchase the ticket and scarf package can pick up their scarf in Fan Fiesta. The night will also feature a $5 michelada drink special and a guest appearance from the Spurs Hype Squad from 6:15 – 7:15 p.m.

The team will also wear special edition SAFC/Spurs Tribute pregame tops during warmups. Pregame top replicas will be available for purchase at The Soccer Factory by sections 102 and 129 at Toyota Field on match day.

San Antonio FC (0-3-1) fell 0-1 to Austin Bold FC (1-1-1) in the first edition of the Central Texas Derby. SAFC was unable to find the back of the net despite outshooting the Bold and earning the majority of possession throughout the match.

“We worked hard for 90 minutes and came up short at the end of it,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. “We are bitterly disappointed and we want to make sure we learn and move past it and get ready for our match next Saturday.”

Austin found the lone goal of the match in the 77th minute when forward Kleber found the back of the net following a corner kick for the 1-0 lead. SAFC had close chances from forward Ever Guzman and midfielder Walter Restrepo in the dying moments of the match, however both chances floated just over the crossbar.

SAFC created nine chances on goal throughout the night and outshot the Bold 9-6, all the while holding the majority of possession with 54 percent. San Antonio FC defenders Josh Yaro and Kai Greene led the team with four tackles each, while defender Ebenezer Ackon recorded a team-high eight clearances.

Goalkeeper Jonathan Viscosi and midfielders Leeroy Maguraushe and Brian Gomez made their first San Antonio FC starts on the night. Viscosi recorded one save on the night while Maguraushe and Gomez recorded one chance created a piece.

San Antonio FC signed midfielder Brian Gomez for the 2019 USL Championship season pending league and federation approval, the club announced today. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. 

“We are excited that Brian has arrived in San Antonio,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. “He has shown well in training this week, and we are looking forward to him adding to the roster. He comes with very good experience and he is an exciting attacking player.”

Gomez joins SAFC from CD Feirense of the Portuguese first division where he made six league appearances, tallying 171 minutes this season. The 25-year-old began his professional career in his native Argentina with Argentinos Juniors in 2012 before going on to make 46 appearances with Estudiantes Caseros from 2014-2015. Gomez then made 65 league appearances with Argentinian club Brown de Adrogué from 2016-18, scoring nine goals.

Overall in his career, Gomez has scored 11 goals in 119 career league matches while compiling 6,936 total minutes. The winger has also made seven total appearances in domestic cups, both in Argentina and Portugal, scoring one goal in 356 minutes.

“This is a great opportunity for me and this is a fantastic club,” said Gomez. “Honestly I’ve been very pleased by everything here; it’s a very organized institution, and I’m looking forward to enjoying this while helping our team reach our objectives.”

With the addition of Gomez, the active SAFC roster currently stands at 23. Gomez will wear No. 20 for the club.

SAFC reinforced its defense with the addition of Moises Hernandez, who joined the club on loan from FC Dallas on Thursday for his second stint with the club. Last season, the Texas native compiled 15 clearances, 10 tackles, nine interceptions, three blocks, and an 80.5 percent passing accuracy in six appearances.

The Switchbacks will look to bounce back with a win after falling 0-1 to Sacramento Republic FC last weekend. The club previously earned a convincing 4-1 win at LA Galaxy II in their season opener and will look to remain unbeaten at home against San Antonio with former SAFC forward Mike Seth leading the attack.

SAFC is 2-2-2 all-time against the Switchbacks in USL Championship play. Matchups between the two clubs have historically been tight contests, with neither team ever beating the other by a margin larger than one goal. Last season, the two also faced each other in an intense U.S. Open Cup third-round clash which SAFC eventually won in penalty kicks after a 1-1 draw through 120 minutes of play at Toyota Field.

San Antonio FC has added defender and Texas native Moises Hernandez on loan from FC Dallas (MLS) for the 2019 USL Championship season pending league and federation approval, the club announced today. Per club policy, terms of the loan were not disclosed. 

Hernandez appeared in six USL Championship matches while on loan with SAFC in 2018, compiling 537 total minutes played. The defender recorded 15 clearances, 10 tackles, nine interceptions, three blocks and an 80.5 percent passing accuracy in his six matches with San Antonio.

“We want to thank FC Dallas for allowing Moises to join us on loan,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. “We are pleased that he is back to join the team and we are hoping to see him progress on his performances for us last season. He is ready to go after a successful preseason with FC Dallas and is available for selection straight away.”

Hernandez first joined FC Dallas in 2010 along with Victor Ulloa and Ruben Luna as the club’s second, third and fourth ever Homegrown players. Hernandez spent time on loan with Comunicaciones and Deportivo Saprissa (Costa Rica) before making his FC Dallas first-team debut in 2014. Overall with the MLS side, the defender has appeared in 31 matches, tallying 2,084 minutes while recording two assists and 10 shots. Hernandez also appeared in two MLS playoff matches in 2014, totaling 175 minutes over two starts.    

The 26-year-old has represented the United States at the U-20 level before making 15 appearances with the Guatemalan national team in World Cup Qualifiers, CONCACAF Gold Cup matches and international friendlies. He made his debut for Guatemala in 2015. The Dallas native also had a loan spell at former NASL club Rayo OKC in 2016. 

“I’m very happy and excited to be back in San Antonio,” said Hernandez. “This club treated me very well while I was here for a short period last season and my family and I are thrilled to be here again.”

San Antonio FC has added defender and Texas native Moises Hernandez on loan from FC Dallas (MLS) for the 2019 USL Championship season pending league and federation approval, the club announced today. Per club policy, terms of the loan were not disclosed. 

Hernandez appeared in six USL Championship matches while on loan with SAFC in 2018, compiling 537 total minutes played. The defender recorded 15 clearances, 10 tackles, nine interceptions, three blocks and an 80.5 percent passing accuracy in his six matches with San Antonio.

“We want to thank FC Dallas for allowing Moises to join us on loan,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. “We are pleased that he is back to join the team and we are hoping to see him progress on his performances for us last season. He is ready to go after a successful preseason with FC Dallas and is available for selection straight away.”

Hernandez first joined FC Dallas in 2010 along with Victor Ulloa and Ruben Luna as the club’s second, third and fourth ever Homegrown players. Hernandez spent time on loan with Comunicaciones and Deportivo Saprissa (Costa Rica) before making his FC Dallas first-team debut in 2014. Overall with the MLS side, the defender has appeared in 31 matches, tallying 2,084 minutes while recording two assists and 10 shots. Hernandez also appeared in two MLS playoff matches in 2014, totaling 175 minutes over two starts.    

The 26-year-old has represented the United States at the U-20 level before making 15 appearances with the Guatemalan national team in World Cup Qualifiers, CONCACAF Gold Cup matches and international friendlies. He made his debut for Guatemala in 2015. The Dallas native also had a loan spell at former NASL club Rayo OKC in 2016. 

“I’m very happy and excited to be back in San Antonio,” said Hernandez. “This club treated me very well while I was here for a short period last season and my family and I are thrilled to be here again.”

San Antonio FC (0-1-1) fell 1-3 to Portland Timbers 2 (1-0-1) on Saturday night at Toyota Field. A goal from midfielder Jack Barmby was not enough to salvage a point at home for the Alamo City club.

“We created more opportunities than I’ve seen in a long time with this team, and yet we came out with only one goal off a penalty and nothing else,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. “We need to do a lot better and the bottom line is [this is] a collective effort.”

The Timbers opened the scoring in the 18th minute after midfielder Todd Wharton found the end of a pass from teammate Foster Langsdorf and beat goalkeeper Matthew Cardone for the 1-0 lead.

SAFC then found the equalizer ten minutes later after Barmby was taken down inside the box by the visitors’ goalkeeper to earn a penalty kick, which he converted from the spot to score his first club goal against his former team.

Portland then regained the lead just four minutes later after midfielder Marvin Loria found the back of the net following a breakaway to make it 1-2. The Timbers found a third goal in the 78th minute after Loria struck again with a left-footed shot from the top of the box.

San Antonio FC midfielder Leeroy Maguraushe made his professional debut on the night after coming on as a substitute in the 78th minute, while midfielder Walter Restrepo made his club debut in his return to Toyota Field since he played for the San Antonio Scorpions in 2014.

SAFC will return to USL Championship action as they travel for the first time this season to face Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at Weidner Field on Saturday, March 23 at 7 p.m. CT.
