San Antonio FC midfielder Lance Laing and defender Cyprian Hedrick were named to the USL Team of the Week, the league announced today. Laing scored a goal and recorded an assist in each of the team’s two wins over the past week, while Hedrick scored his first career goal against Phoenix Rising FC.
Laing tallied a goal and an assist for the second and third consecutive matches against then first-place Real Monarchs SLC on Monday and then second-place Phoenix Rising FC on Saturday. The Jamaican midfielder has recorded three goals and three assists in just four appearances for the club and is now tied for third-most goals and second-most assists on the team.
Hedrick scored in the 22nd minute of the team’s match against Phoenix Rising FC to equalize and spark an eventual comeback that led to a 3-2 win for the Alamo City club. The goal marks Hedrick’s first career goal in 128 USL regular season appearances. The center-back also recorded eight clearances and three interceptions in the team’s two wins throughout the week.
The honors mark just the second time that two SAFC players have been named to the same Team of the Week this season after Hedrick and midfielder Charlie Ward received the honors simultaneously on Week 20. Both Lance and Hedrick have earned Team of the Week honors twice this season.
