SAN ANTONIO, TX (Aug. 11, 2017) – Back in April, San Antonio FC recorded one of its biggest wins so far this season against a brand new Reno 1868 FC squad, who at the time had three official matches under its belt in their inaugural campaign. SAFC routed Reno 4-0 at Toyota Field in the first of a five-match winning streak for the club.
This Saturday, San Antonio FC (11-1-8) will travel to face Reno (9-5-6) for the second time this season. San Antonio FC remains the only team in the league with just one loss in 2017, with goalkeeper Diego Restrepo tied in the league-lead for most clean sheets (eight), while the team has conceded the fewest goals in the USL (11).
The matchup may prove to be a showdown between the hosts’ attack and the visitors’ defense. Reno is currently the team with the most goals in the USL with 49 goals, while forward Dane Kelly leads the league individually with 15 goals scored, leading the race for the Golden Boot while Restrepo leads the race for the Golden Glove.
SAFC will aim to get a win on the road after earning a draw at home against Orange County SC last Saturday following a penalty kick awarded against the club in stoppage time. SAFC is 6-1-2 on the road, while Reno is 5-1-4 at home.
Should he play on Saturday night, San Antonio FC defender Greg Cochrane would make his 50th USL appearance for the club. Cochrane has been an important and consistent figure in the Silver and Black’s back line, featuring in 4,333 minutes since the club’s inaugural season and featuring in all but one USL match for the team.
Should SAFC earn a win, the club could potentially place itself four points away from Real Monarchs, who currently lead the west with 48 points. The match will be the first of two consecutive games on the road for SAFC, who will travel to face OKC Energy FC following this weekend’s matchup.
