The SAFC Pro Academy held their first training session earlier this week under the guidance of SAFC Pro Academy Director and current San Antonio FC Assistant Coach Nick Evans. Check out some numbers to get familiar with the players and coaches ahead of their inaugural season:
1- The first team in SAFC Pro Academy history will be the U-12 group. The squad is composed of players at or below the age of 12 who were born in 2004 or after.
3- Three members of the San Antonio FC first team will assume coaching positions for the academy team. SAFC Assistant Coach Nick Evans will serve as Pro Academy Director, while first team goalkeeper Josh Ford and defender Ryan Roushandel serve as staff coaches.
6- Six players on the roster were born after 2004 and will play in an age group above their own (Henrik Sakshaug, Daniel Ordonez, Alek Melo, Kibukila Mbula, Roman Holt, and Angel Bernal).
10- The youngest player on the squad is 10-year-old Kibukila Mbula.
11- Combined, the members of the U-12 squad formerly played for 11 different clubs in the San Antonio area (Lonestar, Tigres, AHFSH Fire, Classics Elite, NEYSO Liberty, One World, SA United, Texans, Deer Premier, Boerne FC Thunder, and Lions Futball Club).
21- The SAFC Pro Academy squad will take the field for the first time in a friendly match on Sunday, August 21st at the STAR Soccer Complex.
27- The U-12 team is composed of 27 players from the San Antonio area, all of who were identified by the club in a series of identification dates in May.
