Club opens academy talent identification as youth structure expands
SAN ANTONIO (April 24, 2026) – San Antonio FC today announced the 2026-27 Ricos SAFC Pro Academy open talent identification and confirmed the club will transition to full operational control of its academy structure ahead of the upcoming season.
As part of the new phase, San Antonio FC will conclude its youth affiliation with Lonestar Soccer Club, marking the next step in the continued evolution of the club’s development pathway.
“We want to sincerely thank Lonestar Soccer Club for their partnership, commitment and work alongside us over the last three years,” said SAFC Academy Director Juan Lamadrid. “Together, we helped build a foundation that has impacted many players and families across our city. We respect their contributions and appreciate the role they have played in our journey.”
Under full club leadership, the Ricos SAFC Pro Academy will continue to grow with a clear focus on long-term player development, both on and off the field, into the collegiate and professional levels. Since its founding in 2016, the academy has been built on cultivating local talent in San Antonio and across the region, driven by its four core pillars: talent identification, development, integration and opportunity. In the club’s first 10 seasons, more than 40 academy members have integrated into the first team environment and seen action across all competitions for SAFC.
The transition aligns with the club’s long-term vision of establishing a fully integrated player development pathway. With the addition of San Antonio FC 2 in USL League Two this year, the organization now offers a complete progression from youth academy levels through pre-professional competition and into the first team.
“This is an important step forward for our academy and our club,” said Lamadrid. “With this structure, we are creating more clarity and opportunity for players within our system to train, compete and continue growing at the highest levels.”
San Antonio FC will host upcoming open talent identification for players interested in joining the Ricos SAFC Pro Academy, with opportunities available across multiple age groups. The identification will serve as an entry point for players looking to be part of the club’s professional development pathway.
