Hernandez Tied SAFC Single-Season Assist Record on Saturday
SAN ANTONIO (Sept. 12, 2023) – San Antonio FC midfielder Jorge Hernandez has been named to the USL Championship Team of the Week, the league announced today. Hernandez earned his league-leading ninth assist of the season on Saturday.
Hernandez’s assist in the 71st minute not only moved him into sole possession of the top spot in the league, but also put him into a tie for the most assists in a single season in SAFC history.
Still in his first season with SAFC, Hernandez’s total is already good for the fifth-most career assists in club history – just five shy of Justin Dhillon’s 14.
Hernandez finished the draw at Colorado Springs with seven chances created, while winning nine of 10 duels and two of three tackles. The midfielder completed 26 of 35 passes as well, bringing his season passing accuracy to 72.5 percent. The percentage is the second-most on the team among players with over 100 passes.
SAFC hosts C.D. Tapatío tonight in an international friendly that kicks off at 7:30 p.m. CT from Toyota Field. The team is in action again on Saturday, returning to USL Championship play to host the Tampa Bay Rowdies at 7:30 p.m. CT.
