Gomez to Compete in Group A with USMNT
SAN ANTONIO (June 14, 2023) – San Antonio FC defender Shannon Gomez has been called up to the Trinidad & Tobago National Team for upcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup matches, the club announced today. Trinidad & Tobago has qualified for the competition’s group stage, and will compete against the United States Mens National Team.
Gomez has earned seven caps with the national team, including four Nations League matches last season. In a 2-0 win over St. Vincent last June, Gomez tallied the first assist of his international career.
Gomez has appeared in all but one match with SAFC this season – a 1-0 win over Colorado Springs in March when the defender was on national team duty for Nations League play.
The wingback is fourth on the team in minutes played with 1,066, assisting once. Defensively, Gomez is in the top five on the team in both interceptions (16) and clearances (18).
Trinidad & Tobago open their Gold Cup campaign on Sunday, June 25 in Fort Lauderdale against the winner of preliminary matches that will begin on Friday. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. CT. The Soca Warriors then play Jamaica on June 28 and the USMNT on July 2 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
