Taintor Scored Career-Best Five Goals in Strong Season
SAN ANTONIO (November 8, 2022) – San Antonio FC defender Mitchell Taintor has been named the USL Championship Defender of the Year, the league announced today.
“I think it’s a culmination of hard work and surrounding yourself with people with the same vision,” said Taintor. “And obviously I’m really happy to get the award, there’s a great sense of pride there for me, but it’s a credit to the collective because without the guys next to me this doesn’t happen.”
Taintor was named to the USL Championship All-League First Team last week, and made the league’s Team of the Week on six different occasions during the regular season. The centerback led the SAFC defense to equal a league-record for single-season team shutouts with 17, while leading the team in interceptions (72) and blocks (24) and finishing third in clearances with 106. Offensively, Taintor posted a career-best five goals and an assist to emerge as a dangerous set piece threat.
Taintor and SAFC are in action this Sunday, hosting the USL Championship Final at Toyota Field on November 13. Tickets for the match are on sale now at SanAntonioFC.com or the SAFC app, with the massive matchup also broadcast nationally on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes.
