Defender Led SAFC Defense to Strong Week
SAN ANTONIO (August 2, 2022) – San Antonio FC defender Mitchell Taintor has been named to the USL Championship Team of the Week bench, the league announced today.
Taintor was a part of two dominant defensive efforts last week, with SAFC defeating Las Vegas 2-0 and drawing LA 1-1. In the two matches, the San Antonio defense allowed just five shots on target and one goal scored.
In playing every minute of the two matches, Taintor picked up six tackles, four clearances, a blocked shot and eight interceptions. The centerback won nine of 13 duels as well.
This is the 20th time this season that a San Antonio FC player has been named to the weekly list, while Taintor leads the team with six appearances. Fellow centerback Fabien Garcia is next on the team with five appearances on the list.
SAFC is on the road this weekend, heading to San Diego on Saturday for a matchup of the two top teams in the USL Championship Western Conference. Kickoff is set for 9:00 p.m. CT, with the match broadcast on ESPN+.
