San Antonio FC has added forward Jordan Perruzza on loan from MLS side Toronto FC pending league and federation approval, the club announced today. Per team policy, the terms of the loan were not announced.
Perruzza re-joins San Antonio FC after originally joining the Alamo City club on loan in September of last season and playing the last five matches of the regular season campaign. In five games, the forward scored three goals, recorded 18 shots and added 10 shots on target in 292 minutes. In addition, Perruzza played 120 minutes in the lone SAFC playoff match against New Mexico United.
"We are thrilled to welcome back Jordan Perruzza to the SAFC family and thankful to Toronto FC for conducting the loan,” said SAFC Head Coach Alen Marcina. “Jordan is an exceptional talent who performed very well for us last season. He has demonstrated the ability to create and score goals, he is committed to our game model pressing actions, and he always competes and gives everything for the team."
Perruzza was signed by Toronto FC in August of 2020 as the club’s 24th Homegrown signing in team history. He made his MLS debut in April while also appearing for Toronto in the CONCACAF Champions League this season.
Perruzza spent the 2019 season with Toronto FC II in USL League One, putting together an MVP-caliber campaign. In 24 games with Toronto, he scored 15 goals and recorded two assists and 19 key passes en route to being named to the League One All-League First Team. In addition, the 20-year-old was one of four finalists for the 2019 League One Young Player of the Year award.
“I am excited to be back in San Antonio and grateful to the SAFC coaching staff,” said Perruzza. “We have some unfinished business to take care of from last season, and I can’t wait to get started.”
Born and raised in Canada, Perruzza originally played youth soccer in his home country before leaving for Italy to play in the Empoli FC academy. The 6’1 forward returned to Canada to join Toronto FC II in 2018. Perruzza has represented his country at the U-20 level.
With the addition of Perruzza, the active SAFC roster currently stands at 27. He will wear No. 77 for the club.
