San Antonio FC fell 0-2 to Real Monarchs SLC on Wednesday night at Rio Tinto Stadium in the first and final encounter between the two clubs this season.
The first half of the match remained scoreless despite both teams creating chances in the attack. SAFC conceded a penalty early in the half, but goalkeeper Matt Cardone came up big to make his team-leading third penalty save of the season.
Real Monarchs then opened the scoring in the 74th minute when Charlie Adams collected the ball after chaos in the box and slotted it into the open net. Forward Pedro Báez added a second for the hosts eight minutes later after he capitalized on a one-on-one against Cardone.
San Antonio FC defender Ryan Roushandel made his club debut against the Monarchs. Roushandel was included in the starting lineup and played the full 90 minutes of the match, making his first appearance since signing for SAFC in May 2016.
San Antonio FC will return to action at Toyota Field on Saturday, Sept. 17 as they host the last regular season home match of their inaugural season against Tulsa Roughnecks FC. The team will then travel to face Rio Grande Valley FC on Sept. 24 in their final regular season match of the season.
