San Antonio FC captain and goalkeeper Josh Ford and defender Stephen McCarthy are both expected to miss the remainder of the 2016 USL season, following injuries they suffered prior to and during the Aug.17 match vs. Arizona United SC.
Ford sustained a broken scapula during warmups prior to the match and was replaced in the lineup by backup goalkeeper Matt Cardone. McCarthy exited the match in the first half with a broken elbow and will undergo surgery in the near future.
The SAFC captain, Ford, has appeared in 17 USL matches, playing a total of 1,509 minutes. The Liverpool, NY native has made 53 saves and holds a 0.89 goals against average, which ranks fifth in the USL West among keepers with at least 10 starts. Ford has only allowed more than one goal in a match once this season.
Ford signed with San Antonio FC in February and was named captain prior to the start of the season. The 28-year-old has previously spent time with MLS clubs Seattle Sounders and Orlando City SC.
McCarthy has appeared in 19 USL matches, playing a total of 1,571 minutes. The defender has scored two goals and recorded an assist in USL play, while also appearing in two U.S. Open Cup matches, playing 180 minutes.
The Texas native returned to his home state to sign with San Antonio FC in February, after spending a season in Finland’s first division. McCarthy has appeared over 60 times at the MLS level with the New England Revolution.
