San Antonio FC defender Stephen McCarthy has been named to the USL Team of the Week for his performance against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on June 18, the USL announced this afternoon. McCarthy played 90 minutes, holding the opposition to just one goal while also scoring the game-winner for San Antonio FC in the 35th minute.
The goal marked McCarthy’s third professional strike and his first since he recorded two during the 2011 season while with the New England Revolution (MLS).
McCarthy has started all 11 USL matches he has appeared in this season, playing a total of 951 minutes at the center-back position. The Dallas native has scored one goal and recorded one assist in USL play, while also playing 180 minutes in two U.S. Open Cup starts this year.
