“We want to thank RGV for making the trip to San Antonio and bringing a very competitive and well coached team to play us,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. “I thought today we defended quite strongly again and we kept a clean sheet which always give you an opportunity to win the game. With the ball, we have to find the moments when we go forward and when we need to be more patient. Today was a great exercise for us to continue to learn. We will take the lessons from today and move forward.”
SAFC went ahead early in the first half after a member of the Toros back line played a risky ball back to the goalkeeper that ended up finding the back of his own net. SAFC was able to create a few half chances in the first half, but unable to put any away.
The second half saw both teams fight for possession and work hard throughout the midfield. Aside from a fantastic save from SAFC keeper Josh Ford, the action in the second half was limited and the Toros own-goal became the difference.
With the win, SAFC is now unbeaten in all six of their preseason friendlies so far this season.
The match comes in preparation for the 2016 USL opener on April 3 in Seattle. The club will return to San Antonio the following week for their home opener at Toyota Field on Saturday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m.
