San Antonio FC (12-11-7) fell 0-2 to Swope Park Rangers (14-10-7) at Children’s Mercy Park on Saturday night. The club will now travel to conclude its three-game road trip at Saint Louis FC on Saturday.
“We’re bitterly disappointed by the result of the match,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. “It was a fairly even game and that was always going to be the case, and in these games the first goal is very valuable. We have a short turnaround now and all eyes are on to Saturday for a significant game.”
The hosts opened the scoring in the 51st minute when midfielder Hadji Barry finished off a cross from forward Tyler Blackwood for the 0-1 lead. The hosts then added a second in the 75th minute after Blackwood added a goal of his own after heading in a cross from Rassambek Akhmatov to make it 0-2.
SAFC forward Ever Guzman led the team’s attack with five chances created and a 95 percent passing accuracy, while defender Darnell King recorded six tackles, three clearances, and 13 possessions gained on the defensive end.
San Antonio FC will travel to face Saint Louis FC on Saturday, Sept. 22 as the club looks to keep its playoff hopes alive. SAFC would still control its own playoff destiny with a win at Toyota Stadium this weekend.
