San Antonio FC beat Trinity University 3-2 at Toyota Field on Saturday in the team’s final preseason game. Two goals from forward Alex Bruce and one from a trialist earned the team a win as they prepare for their USL Championship season opener next Saturday.
“When we reflect on preseason we’ll think of it as a positive one,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. “We’ve been working on our identity for the upcoming season and over the past two days we’ve scored seven goals, which is positive. There are still things we need to work on and we’ll address those as we progress through the season.”
SAFC opened the scoring in the 30th minute after a trialist settled the ball inside the box off a cross for Bruce, who buried it from close range for the 1-0 lead. The Alamo City club extended their lead just one minute into the second half after Bruce found a trialist inside the box with a pass, which he finished near-post to make it 2-0.
Bruce then found his second goal of the night in the 60th minute after a trialist made a run down the flank and crossed it low and hard into the box, from where the England native placed the ball into the net for the 3-0 lead.
Trinity pulled one back just one minute later after a foul inside the SAFC box led to a converted penalty. Four minutes later, the Tigers struck again after a good run of play concluded with a tap-in from a forward from point-blank range.
SAFC will host its USL Championship season opener presented by H-E-B on Saturday, March 9 at Toyota Field as the club hosts Phoenix Rising FC at 7:30 p.m. The night will feature postgame fireworks, $1 beer and sodas courtesy of Bud Light, and Extra Time, the official SAFC postgame party.
