Goals from Mikey Lopez and Kris Tyrpak Earn Three Points for SAFC

San Antonio FC (1-1-0) beat Saint Louis FC (0-1-1) 2-1 at Toyota Field in the club’s home opener on Saturday night. SAFC came from behind with goals from Mikey Lopez and Kris Tyrpak to earn three points at home in front of a sellout crowd of 7,946.

“Tonight was a very exciting game for the fans to watch,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. “I’m very proud of our players for finding a way to win tonight. They never gave up and kept up their work ethic until the final whistle.”

Saint Louis FC opened the scoring in the third minute of the match after a pressing attack led to a goal from forward Kyle Greig off a cross from midfielder Austin Martz.

San Antonio FC then equalized in the 21st minute when midfielder Connor Presley sent in a cross from the right flank to find Tyrpak in the back post. Tyrpak headed the ball back across the mouth of goal, where Lopez crashed in and buried a header to level the score.

The Alamo City club struck again in the second half after Lopez made a run down the right wing and sent in a cross to the front post, from where Tyrpak beat goalkeeper Jake Fenlason with a well-placed header for the 2-1 lead.

The goals marked Lopez’s second in as many matches, and Tyrpak’s first of 2018 and seventh for the club. Both players also tallied their first assist of the campaign to set up each other’s goals.

The match also marked the third consecutive sold-out home opener for the Silver and Black.

San Antonio FC will return to action on Saturday, March 31 at LA Galaxy II. The club will then return to Toyota Field as they host Swope Park Rangers on Saturday, April 7.
