San Antonio FC earned a 0-0 draw against Swope Park Rangers on Saturday night at Toyota Field to remain undefeated in the USL. A battle in possession and solid defensive play earned both teams a clean sheet and a point each.
“It’s tough to play the same team twice in a week,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. “But to get four points in the two-game series was good. I’m very proud to get another clean sheet, and now we get a point and keep moving forward.”
SAFC goalkeeper Diego Restrepo earned his first SWBC Man of the Match honors after recording his sixth consecutive clean sheet in seven appearances so far this season, which continue to lead the league in that category. The shutout was the Alamo City club’s ninth of the season overall.
“We’ve developed the character of fighting and grinding results out,” Restrepo said. “It’s a great mentality to have and it doesn’t come easily; it comes from the top [of the pitch] all the way to the bottom, but it’s nice to be the team that has that character to fight and have the pride of not giving up goals.”
San Antonio FC has now remained scoreless in 555 minutes of USL play. The club last conceded a goal on April 25 at Seattle Sounders 2, and has not lost a match at Toyota Field since falling to Saint Louis FC on September 10, 2016.
Defender Greg Cochrane was shown a red card in the 82nd minute, which marks just the second in franchise history since Josh Ford was shown a red on July 9 against OKC Energy FC.
San Antonio FC will return to action on Saturday, June 10 as they travel to face OKC Energy FC at Taft Stadium in the two clubs’ first matchup of the season. The Alamo City club will then return to Toyota Field on June 17 when they host Tulsa Roughnecks FC.
