SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 11, 2016) - San Antonio FC beat the University of Incarnate Word 2-1 at Toyota Field in a closed-door preseason friendly. The match was the club’s first of their 2017 preseason campaign.
UIW opened the scoring about 10 minutes into the second half after splitting the SAFC defense and slotting the ball past goalkeeper Lee Johnston.
San Antonio FC defender Ryan Roushandel equalized fifteen minutes later when he scored from close range after a set piece by midfielder Devin Vega. The 18-year-old then tallied a goal of his own just minutes later when he converted a penalty kick after forward Akwafei Ajeakwa was taken down inside the box.
“It was a good feeling to get a goal against a good opponent,” SAFC midfielder Devin Vega said. “It’s good getting to learn from the guys, getting together and playing each other’s style. It feels good to win.”
San Antonio FC will play their second preseason match on February 18 as they host St. Edward’s University in a closed-door friendly at Toyota Field. The club is currently preparing for their first USL match on March 26 at Rio Grande Valley FC.
